This is an odd review as it is for TWO visits inside a week.
The first thing I should mention is that is for the cafe restaurant downstairs and not for the main restaurant upstairs, which is good quality and more formal than the cafe downstairs.
Our first visit was for a private party that we held. We booked the whole of the downstairs area and invited about 90 people. We were fortunate that the weatehr was very good so the early part of the evening was mostly spent on the terrace overlooking the harbour.
The staff were very good and efficient and most people ate food which was cooked to order and of a very good standard. To help the restaurant staff we cut down the choices a bit on the emnu but it was still interesting and everyone said they enjoyed it. The atmosphere was very good all evening. We really couldn't fault it.
Unfortunately one week later we were invited for an informal meal on the Friday evening. Sadly, the experience wasn't as good. Despite sitting down at 8pm, two of the main courses on a fairly short menu (about 8 or 9 items) were sold out. Predictably these were the best choices (which is why everyone else had chosen them). 4 of us out of 6 ended up with a savoury vegetable tart, which besides being very much second choice was not even as advertised and was a bit of a let down.
It was quite busy but no more than on previous visits but the service, although friendly and apologetic was dreadfully slow.
It is a shame that our memory of this place has been soured because our party was excellent and numerous other visits here have been a success. I would normally give 4 stars besed on previous visits and 5 for the party night but unfortunately this one was very average.
