Like so many small English hotels, the Royal Cambridge has seen better days. Others have noted its shabby quaintness. Can't disagree...but I was okay here for 4 nights. The staff was very friendly and obliging and the food was good. I had good service from everyone, including repeated use of their business centre, which is just one laptop in a private room. There is a good choice of continental or hot breakfast. Buy a voucher for the hot food if not included in your rate (mine wasn't). At 10 GBP, it's a good deal. I ate one supper here also. It was well served and quite good. Their sticky toffee pudding might be the best I've ever had. Well located, bus stop right outside, easy walking to the University area, FitzWilliam museum (free!) right next door. It was very quiet all the time and my first floor window opened for fresh air. Parking is out the back but not cheap. The elevator is still broken! As for linens, in N. America, you make a request for fresh linens up til a certain number of days, so I don't expect linens to be changed unless I ask. Towels were plentiful and fluffy and there was lots of hot water. I would stay again. I think it was a good deal for the price and location.
