We were quite disappointed with our experience at the Carolina Guest House. We booked our stay after reading all of the positive reviews about the accommodations and hospitality. We were disappointed with both. The rooms were small and the beds were uncomfortable. I can only assume that in an effort to make our room "ensuite" the owners built a bathroom in a small closet. The sink was tiny, and the shower stall was so small one had to open the door to dry off after the shower. Rather than the small individual soaps and shampoo offered by every other B&B, this guest house had large multiuse bottles (only 1/4 full). There was a TV in each room (we had two rooms), however, there were only 3 channels. Our host, Pas, was pleasant, but not really helpful. When asked questions, most of the answers were simple yes or no with no elaboration. Breakfast was also a disappointment. Full English part was adequate, but the continental breakfast consisted of white loaf bread (sometimes even a loaf of wheat bread), pastries and croissants in cellophane (that is, from a box), and spotted bananas and little apples. The fruit at the market was much fresher. In fact we often bought fresh fruit at the market and brought our own to breakfast. The house was on the bus route, but the buses only run once every hour on Sundays and after 7pm. The walk into town was truly a hike (30 to 40 minutes). I am sure there are better accommodations in Cambridge.

We normally accept all constructive criticism but not when we feel the guests are being unfair . I would like to explain to Mr S. that our breakfasts are quite adequate for most people, apart from bananas, apples and the sealed croissants and pastries( we choose sealed for hygiene reasons), we had fruit salad, yogurts , cheeses and rye bread in the fridge in the dining room ( maybe he missed them). As far as room sizes are concerned, one of the rooms maybe a bit small for some people, but he should also mention the other room he had, where there is also a two seater sofa for guest to relax and where he had a full size bathroom, with a bath and a full size basin. We replace the big bottles of shampoo when they run out.
We have replaced tvs with 22inch LCD screen with digital freeview channels.
Regarding the beds, we bought the beds in june 2008, they are very new and everyone is telling us how comfortable they slept. Maybe he was disappointed because we could not collect his clothes from the laundrette as he asked us, unfortuately we had guests arrivng, we could not leave the premises.
We think this guest has mistaken B&Bs with hotels.
