We chose the Trengilly Wartha at random because it allowed dogs, and it certainly worked out well for us. It is a really friendly, good quality hotel, and Will (the owner), is an excellent host, non-obtrusive, but attentive. The beer is excellent, and mostly regional. As for the food, it certainly won’t disappoint. There is a varied menu of locally-produced/sourced food; I had fish one night, at about 8 in the evening, which had been landed just up the road only a few hours earlier.
The hotel also acts as a local pub, and the regulars are a characterful, and nice, bunch. There’s something going on every night, each week, and we enjoyed the folk music night where local players performed in the corner. Alternatively, there’s no obligation to be involved, and other guests were sitting, chatting quite happily.
It's a little remote, but for us that made it better. It's about 30 or-so minutes by car to Truro, to put the distance into perspective. We used Trengilly as base for touring Cornwall during our week there, and made it easily to Padstow, Rock, etc, and back in-time for dinner.
All-in-all, we were very happy, with no faults at all.
