We arrived at the travelodge for 4 nights. There wasn’t a lift, so we had a longish walk to our room on the first floor....i never would have made it to the second!
Our room was both good and bad. The view was great from one of the windows, and out of the other was a burger king.
The room was basic and as you would expect from the brand. However it wasn’t very clean. In fact, when I went to wipe the dust with my finger on the side, i realised someone had already done it and their finger swipe had yet to be seen and dealt with by housekeeping.
We slept ok, it was quite noisy; the road, the drunken people and of course, those darn seagulls! They were the noisiest of the lot. But you need your windows open as it gets pretty warm.
The shower and bathroom were ok, they left plenty of towels, so that was good, though there was an odd stain on the shower curtain
We had an issue in the restaurant one evening. I ordered nachos and we sat down, then realised I hadn’t asked for jalapenos. I went back to let the guy know, to which he replied “oh you can’t have nachos now, there’s no cheese” I was a bit confused. He hadn’t mentioned this when ordering 30 seconds ago, so I asked for my money back on those, because I could have just nipped down to the aldi underneath for a bag of crisps.
It took about 15 minutes for them to come back to our table to ask any more questions. I should mention that there were 2 people working that night and had to split themselves between the kitchen, the bar and the reception desk. Needless to say, it wasn’t working out for them. When the girl eventually came round to speaking to us, we’d decided we’d had enough and wanted to eat elsewhere. She hadn’t started cooking any of our order minus the nachos, but who could blame her, she was run off her feet.
So we asked for the whole bill to be refunded. This took another 10 minutes, and we could see she was busy, but we’d been here about 30 minutes now, without food, or our money back.
Turns out the refund option on the til wasn’t working/she didn’t know what she was doing. So we spent another 10 minutes sorting that out. They were clearly understaffed, and those 2 were the only staff i’ve seen in the 5 days that i’ve been here. So they’re obviously running the place, fairly poorly.
On the whole, it’s not been a brilliant trip. The location is great, however there are loads of b&b’s nearby which would give you a clean personal service, you’ve just got to track them down. I probably wouldn’t stay at this Travelodge again, and would probably opt for a Premier Inn if there was a choice between the two.
You'll be one of the lucky ones to get a sea view....but keep your fingers crossed!
