We stayed here as part of our honeymoon, which the hotel was aware of as I had previously emailed them and we were so disappointed.
As the heading suggests, it was the management that let this place down. I can't remember the guys name who we believed was the manager but we found him quite rude from the moment we arrived as he checked us in. An example of one of our dealings with this individual was as follows. We stayed in 'Room 1' and on our first night we noticed that our room was completely lit up because of the floodlights in the back garden. The following night when we went down for dinner we spoke to the guy who we just mentioned above and he explained that this was because of the garden suites and the flood light was required for their benefit. He did however mentioned that he did not have anyone staying in these rooms that night so would turn the flood lights off at 11pm. Excellent we thought, did he - no! In fact all this guy was ever interested in was reviewing some book at the bar to see how many bookings he had in the restaurant. He did not seem at all bothered about his guests and their requirements, such as ours, which was a great shame because all of the other staff, in particular in the restaurant and the young lady who served at the bar were fantastic.
The biggest plus piont for this hotel was the food. It was excellent and they obviously have a very good chef!
Going back to our room, which was Room 1, it was described as having "sunset and sea views to Moules Island and the Rumps". The only problem is where they have built the conservatory at the back of the hotel, when you looked out from our room it was interrupted by what unfortunately looked like a large nipple (see photo!). The other disappointment was the fact that our bed was jacked up on bricks, again see photo.
In conclusion, the Longross Hotel is in a stunning location but not really that close to Port Isaac (Doc Martin), which was the reason we stayed here. Don't expect to walk there unless you like a good hike otherwise you will need to drive. We did ask the waitress if you could walk there and she said you can but you will need to walk through about three fields to get there.
The food is excellent and the general staff were very helpful and friendly. For these individuals I give them 5 stars.
It was a shame because the sheer lack of customer service from one particular individual spoilt not only our stay at the Longross but more importantly the conclusion of our honeymoon trip. Would we ever stay there again or recommend it .... absolutely not!
