Although Churston Court looks great with its olde world charm, and theatrical decor, it was overall disappointing.
The main areas of concern were cleanliness and attention to getting the basics right. We booked a 'superior' room (James 1st) for a two night weekend stay at £90 per night.
The room had a great 4 poster bed but was very, very small. Fortunately you could store bags etc under the bed because there was literally nowhere else! The decor is good for the type of hotel but our bedspread was dirty (very suspicious stains!) and there was a strong smell of drains for the duration of our stay.
On the plus side in the room, the bathroom was great. It was a good size with a nice bath and seperate large shower and had clearly recently been updated. The pillows were also very comfy, unlike the mattress.
There was a wedding celebration on Saturday night so it was very noisy until 11pm. It was however very poor to go down to breakfast the next morning to discover that they had not cleaned between the wedding and serving breakfast. Our table had been set for breakfast without even being wiped so we had wedding cake crumbs, icing and currants as well as confetti on our table and the floor had the previous night's dirty paper napkins and other litter.
This is a shame as these basics detracted from a decent breakfast with good choices.
The Churston Court Inn looks great, has real atmosphere, but was ultimately a bit of a let down.
