Having spent much of my childhood in the South Hams, my husband and I took a trip down memory lane and booked Strete Barton for a long weekend. The scenery of the South Devon coast hasn't changed much in 25 years, but the quality of the restaurants and our accommodation certainly had. For a B&B, I think that it would be difficult to beat Strete Barton. We were welcomed very warmly by one of the joint owners (Stuart), who not only carried our luggage to our room, but even parked our car for us. We were then treated to tea and homemade cake plus advice and help on where to eat and local sights. Our room (Kings) had spectacular views over the garden and sea, was excellently appointed with mahogany furniture and silk cushions and was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was all from local produce - yoghurts, fresh fruit salad plus of course full English.
Even the weather favoured us, with the sun shining most of the time - although apparently this isn't unusual as Stuart professes Strete to have its own sunny micro-climate. Following this trip I definitely won't leave it 25 years before returning.
