Stayed for one night which was complimentary following a previous stay which was less than positive.

Following my last stay I contacted Thistle to give them some feedback and received a fast and positive response from the General Manager. I took him up on his offer of a complimentary night stay some 11 months after the initial offer yet he was still happy to honour it.

This time our room was great, on the 3rd floor, huge bed, great bathroom and a fruit basket!! nice touch!

We had a drink in the bar which was very pleasant, and breakfast which was great, lots of choice with a cooked breakfast made to order, no buffet which was a very welcome change!

So, overall a great visit, however got the feeling the room we had was far from a standard double, so would only go back if we stayed in a room of similiar standard again!

The hotel is in a very good position if you are traveling without a car as hotel parking is very limited. The room that i stayed in was clean and in a good condition the tv was a little out dated with only 5 channels unless you wanted to pay for more. There is internet at the hotel but you have to pay for that as well. Staff are pleasant and helpful the menu is very boring if you are staying for more than a couple of nights and very expensive you have to pay for everything even chips with a steak are extra. The hotel seems to be missing something as if it is relying on it past and not looking forward.

Stayed one night here with colleagues to attend a business event. First impressions were good with reception hall very impressive in a 30s art deco (ish) style. Receptionist also very helpful with a can do attitude. Booked in at 11am and was able to access room immediately ahead of my mid-day meeting in town.

Room was somewhat dissappointing. Slightly tired and bland decor. It reeked of smoke despite being designated a non smoking room. Reported this to reception who assured me they would leave the windows open/spray airfreshener and that the smell would be gone when I returned. It wasnt! (although it was much reduced). Bathroom very tired and hot shower wasnt as hot as i hoped for.

Didnt eat at the hotel but the bar was fine for a late night drink and again staff were friendly. Breakfast next day was a mix of buffet and waitress service for the cooked breakfast (which was quite good).

All in all a satisfactory stay although the rooms would benefit from new decor. There are better hotels in Exeter (Barcelona).

This hotel is conveniently located in town. We didn't need to hire a car to get around as we were able to walk pretty much everywhere. I found the rooms to be very clean and bright. The bedding was great. The bed was comfortable. The restaurant staff were courteous and friendly.

I would recommend staying here again.
