“Breakfast Perfection”

Silversprings St Davids

24 May 2008

The rooms are very comfortable with thoughtful extra touches. It is probably the cleanest establishment I have ever visited. I went out of my way to search for dust and came back empty handed.

They aim to please at breakfast and there is a large choice. Portions are on the small side, but that was fine for me. Everything in the breakfast room is laid out to perfection, to the point that you almost felt guilty for taking something for fear of spoiling the display.

I slept well, but was at the back of the building. Some people complained of noise at the front. I was staying on the top floor which was fine, but a bit of an effort to get to with heavy bags.

“Any place better in Exeter-I doubt it”

Silversprings St Davids

2 May 2008

After researching the hotel on the website and then TripAdvisor we decided to book a room. We stayed in March for 6 days. From the moment we arrived until we left we experienced fantastic service from the staff. All of the extra touches like coffee and cookies on arrival an again while we were just relaxing one afternoon. The room was great and quiet; the bed very comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean. The hotel is very close to shopping and sights in Exeter and to the train stations. I find often the website of a hotel causes high expectations that are not quite met once you get there. Not the case for SilverSprings. They met and exceeded expectations. The breakfast choices were great and plentiful. If ever we were to return to Exeter we stay here.

An excellent little hotel, lovely rooms, all individually furnished with great little touches like bathrobes, good quality toiletries, hairdryer, free dvd's etc. The food and service was first rate and the general atmosphere very relaxing. Silversprings is very conveniently located, only 10 minutes walk away from the cathedral, shops, nightlife, whatever you're after really! I really enjoyed my stay, as did the rest of my (probably rather loud!) party...it was brilliant to see all my old uni friends in such a lovely setting! Thanks!

“Home from Home and a little bit more”

Silversprings St Davids

6 Apr 2008

My first experience of the hotel came via its website. It looked very much like a boutique hotel but without the exorbitant costs usually involved. The rooms looked plush and they made a specific point about giving those extra touches which I felt need further investigation.

I usually stay at 4 or 5 star hotels and so I am very fussy about where I stay but on this occasion needed somewhere very close to the train station and this hotel, with its boutique appeal, seemed to be the perfect choice.

I decided to call and speak to them personally and I was very impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness I encountered. I decided to book a room on the spot as I felt I would be well looked after.

My first impression of the hotel when I arrived was that it was a small townhouse, nothing particularly impressive or out of the ordinary. However on the inside it proved to be quite different. It was so far from the standard B&Bs and small hotels you find in cities (I used to work in the hotel industry so have a fair knowledge of all types), the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and ensured that my every whim was catered for.

The room I stayed in was no. 4, a double room. I also had a peek at others and felt they were of a high quality, well furnished, comfy and cosy. The single rooms were small, but nonetheless well furnished and cosy and a good price. The bathrooms were also superb and well stocked with those added extra touches of cotton wool balls, cotton buds, high quality bubble bath and so on. They can also help you if you have forgotten something and will gladly accept ideas for stocking new extras. Indeed in my own room I found a little box of chocolates and a small bottle of wine as a welcome gift, all included in the price of my room!

They also loan DVDs free of charge and have a proper coffee cafetiere in each room which I thought was a nice added touch.

The breakfast room is small and looks out onto the garden, but it is cosy and you don’t feel lost if you are on your own. If all this wasn’t enough, their breakfasts are outstanding. They ensure that all items are grilled and they do not appear to use the cheap and nasty brands one so often finds in the industry. The sausages as a result were of very good quality and very tasty!

For those who are looking for an ethical brand, this hotel could not be better positioned.

Overall I found my stay to be very pleasant and in many ways superior to most 4 or 5 star hotels, especially in terms of personal service with a genuine smile as it is their own business and also for the fully grilled breakfast. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants friendly helpful service with a smile, outstanding cooking (a shame they don’t do evening meals!) and comfy well furnished rooms.

We arrived in Exeter in the pouring rain and needed a bed for the night and opted for Silver Springs. We'd stayed in the area before and hadn't intended to stay in Exeter again (we'd stayed in a hotel just around the corner and had experienced a disturbed night with noise from the bar on the lower ground) but were lucky enough to have chosen Silver Springs. A lovely clean hotel (as with other reviews, decor not to our taste, but was clean, classy and fresh). TV was a small flat screen with integral DVD (films were available free). Lots of complimentary items were available from reception (tooth brush, cotton pads etc) which we hardly see in hotels now. Ironing board and iron were in the wardrobe. Hairdryer too. Seems the hotel had thought of everything! Breakfast room lovely, clean and bright, breakfast was good with a selection of foods (had to keep away from the pastries). As the for the other review which the two women mention problems with parking at the rear - we did the same walk to the front of the hotel in the dark. Area was well lit, so no problems. Staff are very friendly and approachable. I would highly recommend this hotel.
