We would recommend this hotel unreservedly. The location was beautiful, nestled in the woods above the bay. Our room had a view of the sea and surrounding hills, I believe all the rooms have sea views. The hotel is high enough to give views over the Bristol Channel all the way to Wales. You can see Cardiff & Swansea glittering at night.
The proprietors were very friendly, Martin being a superb chef and both he and Colette made us feel very welcome.
Highly recommended !!!

Just returned from a relaxing weekend staying at this quirky hotel. Food and views, as already stated, are excellent. Very comfortable and large bed. Fabulous old building with a great verander over-looking the sea where you can sit in wicker chairs and enjoy your afternoon tea.
However the decor and furniture are in need of serious renovation. Our room had 70's flowery curtains, and ancient bathroom fittings (olive green bathroom suite and green plastic and rusting chrome vanity unit). Dark and dingy reception area.
Would go back again, just for the food, but it could be so much better with just a bit of money spent on the place. Maybe when they sell the last of three adjoining newly converted appartments some of the money will be ploughed back into the hotel?

Well worth the detour off the beaten path down winding lanes, we arrived at this small, cosy hotel to find a big, comfortable bed and cuisine to die for. Though the bar has been converted into for-sale apartments, the restaurant remains intact, and owner Martin Petch turns out the most sublime evening meals and fresh breakfasts. We spent a week in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, and Woody Bay was the highlight. Dinner even topped the acclaimed Castle Hotel in Taunton.
The hotel is ideal for weary walkers or tourists who want an idyllic escape from the bustle of nearby Lynton and Lynmouth. Close to the South-West Coast Path and picturesque Heddon valley, all the bedrooms plus the dining room and lounge have views over secluded Woody Bay out to sea.

I just stayed in the Woody Bay Hotel for a few days with a friend, and we were really happy to be exploring Exmoor from there. It's at the most spectacular spot above the sea, with various walking trails starting right on it's doorstep, and only a few kilometers from Lynton if you are looking for a little more exitement. Colette makes you feel right at home without being too present, and yes: the diner that Martin cooks every night is absolutely wonderful.
If you like to get a time off, go and stay there!
