A haven of peace, a sweet-smelling jewel of Victorian charm with almost mystical healing powers, Victoria Lodge is so much more than a base from which to explore the loveliness of Lynton or a sunny space in which to warm bones gone chilly after hours of hiking Exmoor. The rooms are lovely, and two lounges offer cozy, sunny spots for reading or chatting.
Serving up the most impressive breakfasts I’ve seen anywhere in an atmosphere so friendly and relaxed that even home can seem stilted and uncomfortable in comparison, any day that begins in Victoria Lodge is destined to be a great one, even when the weather isn’t cooperating.
Jacqueline, the proprietress, is the heart and soul and smile of the establishment, for although there are many comfy enough B&Bs in Britain, few convey the welcome, the warmth and the service this one provides, all through the charm and effort of Jacqueline, and the staff does a wonderful job as extensions of her graciousness.
With lovely gardens, easy access to stunningly beautiful walks … the one through the Valley of the Rocks is a personal favorite … in a friendly village full of great restaurants, charming shops and lovely views from almost any angle, it is easy to be effusive with enthusiasm in recommending Victoria Lodge for a stay of any duration. Although a weekend would be lovely, a week or more is just that much better for the extra time here.
