Lynton lies 600 ft above the port of Lynmouth and you couldn’t ask for a better holiday. There’s plenty to do in both towns. My favourites were the old cable railway from Lynmouth to Lynton and the coastal path among the purple heather and the yellow gorse. From the path you wonder how the wild goats manage to get a grip on the precipitous cliffs, and what a view over the azure sea to the coast of South Wales. Lynton is right on the edge of Exmoor which is unique with its own breed of wild ponies, not to mention the deer and the sheep. Just up the coast is Lorna Doone country and anyone who has read the book will be enthralled to find the secret Doone valley.

Victoria Lodge is in the centre of Lynton and you’ll enjoy staying there. There are very interesting Victorian prints and photos throughout the public areas and you’ll enjoy the library and the sitting room. For breakfast you can have cereal, fruit juices, muffins, croissants, toast, and the cooked breakfasts range from a boiled egg to the traditional english breakfast, it’s all fresh and delicious. The bedrooms are well-appointed and very comfortable and Jacqueline Holding and the staff are charming. I’ll definitely be back!

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. The old Victorian house is fantastic with tones of character and in a great location to walk to everything. We had the Victoria room, which has a romantic four poster bed and gorgeous bath and shower room. The hosts are so helpful and friendly. Highly recommended!

We stayed at Victoria Lodge for 3 nights in early April 2006. It has recently re-opened under new ownership.

Our host, Jacqueline, was very welcoming and helpful, with recommendations for sightseeing, hikes, restaurants, pubs, etc.

We stayed in the 'Marie' suite, which was very spacious and had a 6 foot bed. It was beautifully furnished and decorated, very comfortable, and being on the top floor had lovely views of the village and surrounding hills. My only (and very tiny) moan would be that in the bathroom was an automatic air-freshener, which did become quite overpowering unless the extractor fan was on or the bedroom windows were open!

Breakfast was excellent,portions were big, and there was a huge amount to choose from.

The location of Victoria Lodge was also very good - just a couple of minute's walk from the cliff railway, and lots of restaurants and pubs close by for an evening meal.

Overall, a really nice, comfortable place to stay!

This lovely house was recommended to us. We arrived early and left our luggage and Ben was very helpful, asking us if we had thought about somewhere to eat in the evening which was extremely useful. Jane offers an excellent selection for breakfast all cooked to perfection the Victoria Omlette was excellent, also you are spoilt with homemade bread and preserves you certainly dont need to have lunch.
Ben & Jane have really thought about their guests stay, and nothing was too much trouble. Their local knoweldge of the area was very helpful and if you are a walker you are in an ideal location. In the bedrooms is a lovely book advising you of the history of the house, great places to visit which I found interesting reading. Alot of Ben & Jane's guests return every year so really I should keep this little find quiet but with so many B&B's in the area try and stay a the Victoria you wont be disappointed.
