“Charming Devon Hotel”

St. Vincent House Hotel and Restaurant

We returned for our third visit to this excellent little hotel this time staying a little longer.

Lynton and its sister town Lynmouth are situated on one of the most dramatic areas of the north Devon coast. The area has some stunning coastal walking and is within easy reach of Exmoor.

The hotel has five rooms, the room we stayed in was very comfortable. Not particularly large and with a shower only but they do have other rooms that have a bath. The bed was
very comfortable with really nice linen. The combination of this and the Devon sea air make for a very good night's sleep.

The restaurant is excellent and I think this is how a lot of people discover the hotel in the first place. We have eaten in most of the restaurants in both Lynton and Lynton and find this to be consistently the best in the area. The menu is imaginative and always supplemented by several fresh fish choices daily. There is a comment in a previous review that mentions small portions and I have to say that this time we did notice that the portion sizes had increased. I would be very surprised if that would be a valid critcism now.

The hosts are friendly without being over attentive. Overall a very nice hotel from which to explore an exceptionally beautiful part of England.

We have stayed several times at Lin and Jean-Paul's small "bistro" hotel, situated in the centre of Lynton.
There are only 5 rooms, no lift or noisy bar - just peace and quiet with good food served in the cosy restaurant, - if you wish to eat at St.Vincents be sure to reserve a table as it is popular with non-residents.
We enjoy the quiet "attentiveness" of the hosts - nothing is too much trouble and they are genuinely concerned about their guest's comfort .

Dinner has always been excellent - try Jean-Paul's Bouillabaisse and be prepared to tuck your table napkin under your chin to obtain full enjoyment!! - there would be no "raised eyebrows" or "tutting"!!!
Wine list O.K. ; could be improved with a few better quality bottles. Our advice is to choose from lower end of the list.
If you are a "beer-beast", try one of the unusual Belgian beers available from a wide selection.
Good choice for breakfast - scrambled eggs cooked to order - perfection.

A lovely place to spend a quiet ,stress-free long weekend to unwind from the pressures of work.

A cosy guesthouse of 5 rooms all with period decor and situated in the centre of Lynton.
There is no onsite parking but this is not a problem as a pay and display as well as free on-street parking are easily available. As Lynton is not a busy place parking is not an issue.

We purchased a weekly parking pass from the town hall for £10. If you compare this to the daily rate of £7.50 this is a bargain. The parking pass can also be used in nearby Lynmouth thus avoiding the very expensive cliff railway charges.

Back to the hotel...Jean-Paul and Lin run a very friendly establishment and are always on call for advice for the local area. The rooms were clean, comfortable and in a quiet area. The breakfast offered was well cooked offered a good choice and used quality ingredients.

The evening meals were also of a good standard but expensive with very small portions and weak desserts. I would recommend eating at the nearby Crown where the food was much better and half the price! However, this should not distract staying at St.Vincent and I would certainly recommend a stay at B&B only.
