WOW! You guys are finally on tripadvisor! We have stayed here so many times over the last few years, we enjoy the place so much that we would have bought it, had not Allan the Chef beat us to it!!! Of all our happy memories over the years, Lynton Cottage figures so highly. We've stayed in almost all the rooms (since 2001), and tested everything on the menu. Allan almost lives in the kitchen preparing the highest quality food. Sorry we weren't back there this year guys but we're too busy running our own hotel.

Was a bit nervous about choosing a hotel for this holiday, as I'd picked a real disaster last time. Needn't have worried! Very welcoming, relaxed but efficient in lovely old building. Huge bedroom with comfortable carved 4-poster, well appointed bathroom; sea view to die for. Food superb - unexpected in such an out-of-the-way spot. Ample for all but the greediest. No problems selecting for breakfast, and plently of choice.

Points to note - very little mobile phone reception. Would suit those trying to de-stress! Also, the time booked for dinner is the time of ordering - expect a delay as food is freshly cooked. Orders taken in strict booking rotation; but it is possible to book days ahead for the first night, and in advance afterwards, if you want to eat at particular times.

In all, one of the best places we've stayed, and excellent value for money.

Recently visited this hotel. Was quoted £68 per night bed, breakfast and evening meal - when bill came had actually been charged £75 per night!
The room was tiny and very cold, and the food - well if you want to pay £26.50 for a three course meal with coffee, and come away hungry because the plates are huge but the haute cuisine is tiny, this is the place for you.

Love Lynton, but would never return to this hotel.

Enjoy!!!

“Beautiful views but rather inflexible”

Lovely hotel with a great view once you have braved driving up the hairpin bends from Lynmouth to Lynton. The room was spacious and clean and the area is lovely with walks along the cliff to see the wild goats scrambling up and down the steep rocks.

Only complaint is that over breakfast the waitress was really unhelpful and when we asked for a cooked breakfast without tomatoes and mushrooms said "they don't like it when you pick and choose!" and so my husband simply had to have the whole thing and not eat the tomatoes and mushrooms, what a waste and very inflexible for somewhere that pitches itself as a top dining experience.
