I recently finished a week long stay at the Kynance, and couldn't be more satisfied. The property is right on Plymouth Hoe, steps away from the waterfront and less than five minutes walk from the historic Barbican area.
My stay began with a late night check-in on Easter Sunday. Maggie (one of the proprietors) gave me a choice of available rooms, even giving me the keys to both rooms so I could see which one I liked better. The room I settled on was small, with twin beds, coffee/tea maker, workdesk and a brand new bathroom, complete with a spacious shower and towel warmer.
The property also provides free, freshly prepared breakfast, with about a dozen options including egg and toast, bacon sandwich and a full, English breakfast. Maggie and Colin (the other proprietor) were some of the nicest, most genuine people I've met in a long time, and went out of their way to offer sightseeing and restaurant recommendations to better my stay.
There are two things I look for when making hotel reservations: reasonably priced rooms and free Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout my stay, and at 36 quid nightly, the room was definitely a bargain.
If I'm ever back in Plymouth, this is the first place I'll check for a room.
