If you are planning a trip to Plymouth I would definately recommend staying here. I have stayed there twice now. The owners (Theresa and Doreen) are very friendly and welcoming, the rooms are clean and it is very convenient to the downtown core and Plymouth Hoe, while away from heavy traffic. Breakfast is included and is very good as well. Thanks for the great hospitality, Theresa and Doreen!!

“Room for improvement”

My sister had booked most of the hotel for the family to stay over 2 nights for a family wedding in Plympton. My partner and I were the last to arrive at 8.00pm in the evening. Parking is very difficult due to permit parking on side streets. Depsite nobody else having the same names as us and our names being clear in the diary we were told we didnt have a room as they were all taken. We were then allowed to check in hoping there wouldnt be any problems !!! Also had to put up with moans about forms not being filled in correctly so not a good welcome. Rooms were clean and tidy on arrival but some mold in the very small shower on the tiles. Noisey all night on the street being a Saturday. Breakfast was excellent. The main problem was that the room wasn't serviced whilst we were out and it seemed that way for most of the rooms. Beds were not made, bins checked or damp linen changed. As we had got back around 11pm on the Sunday evening this could not be mentioned until we paid in the morning. The owners attitude wasn't very helpful stating it was our fault as we prevented access to the rooms. We had all been out for 2hrs in the morning then back for an hour to change prior to the wedding leaving at 12.40pm. We were told the maids finished at 1.30pm despite signs on the room doors saying rooms serviced between 12 and 3pm.

Will not be recommending them or returning.

This is in response to the review entited ' room for improvement'. Our hotel is situated on a main road as is all the local hotels in this area, we have double glazing and have done everything possible to make the rooms noise free. Also the road is not for permit holders only and a reduced parking ticket was supplied to these particular guests and is supplied to all our guests if needed.

When the booking was made, all rooms were booked under her sisters name, on arrival they gave us a different name which did cause confusion but was easily and swiftly solved. It was true that the hotel was completely full as they were all booked out under her sisters name.

Showers are of standard size and a great deal of effort is put in to keep them clean and mold free.

We ask our guests to vacate their rooms by 10.30am and staff are not allowed in the rooms if guests are still in them. My staff asked if Coffee and teas were needed, this particular guest replied 'no' and shut the door. All other rooms were cleaned and the sister who booked the rooms was very satisfied and says this in our guest book.

Although the one comment on this site did put me off at first, I trusted a recommendation by friends, and booked one double room in the Ashgrove Hotel for a weekend.Still somewhat dubious, we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us around the beautiully presented property.
Breakfast was spot on with a great selection.Turns out the present owners purchased the property in Jan 04.The Ashgrove Hotel offered comfortable accomodation at an exceptional price.

“terrible!!”

I stayed at the Ashgrove hotel for 2 nights over the Easter weekend (Thu-Fri), and i must say it was the most terrible experience i had with hosts in my entire life. the rooms were just fine, apart from a terrible noise in the bathroom every time i used the taps. however, the landlady was completely rude and crazy. she tried to overcharge us by saying that we had booked for 3 nights instead of 2, although we overheard her husband telling her that she was wrong. we were kind enough to let it pass and agreed that we were going to leave anyway aftre 2 nights and she said that if she managed to let out the rooms she would not charge the credit card for a 3 night. thank god for that, we were suspiciouys enough about her, so later that night my friend called the hotel to ask if they had any double rooms available (we had 2 dbl rooms you see), and the landlady said "no there are only single rooms". so i call half an hour later to see what she was planning to say to me, and she says that the rooms were not gone! when i told her that a friend of mine just called 30 mins ago and she said to her that there were only single rooms available, she completely denied it! i think that is outrageous. she wanted to charge the card for another night although the rooms were gone!! very unprofessional. she even started screaming on the phone when i told her i was going to call the police. of course i cancelled my card so no money came out! but for gods sake are they fraudsters or what? this is the first time anything like that has happened to me and i hope it doesnt happen to anyone. it completely ruined our mood for the holiday. the first night we arrived, we were a bit late because of traffic. and she even said that she was kind enough to wait!!! to wait? she would still get her money even if we never went!terrible people and i suggest even if you do go, be extremely careful and ask her to right down the booking dates for you! she may say you had booked for more!
