We got a booking to stay overnight at the Moorland Hotel via laterooms.com. We paid a total of £40.00 BB for the room. Okay the place is a bit tired looking and the public areas a little scruffy, however it is in a fantastic location. The staff who were there couldn't of been more friendly and helpful. Our room was clean with all the facilities you would need (after all we were only paying £40.00 for the night so didn't expect a five star room). The meal in the evening was well cooked and served with a smile. My husband has to have a gluten free diet, the hotel had not known about this in advance. We didn't expect any special considerations for this, so imagine our suprise when once the lady who was serving our meal at dinner found out, she brought him out a gluten free bread roll! Fantastic customer service! Well done Moorland Hotel, we had a great stay - thank you!

The place is worn out. The various hallways and stairways were dirty, and unkept, the doors scratched and battered and even the door locks were clearly worn out. The rooms were clean but the minimal furniture was cheap chipboard. It was a cold night but the heating was low and the windows were open on arrival, so the rooms were cold. Just to add to the effect the heating turned off while we were in the bar and a single fan heater was offered for two rooms.

I slept under the summer duvet with clothes on and we checked out in the morning. Just to finish the effect we were charged a cancellation fee as we had originally booked for three nights, (partly on the basis of the earlier review, presumably left by the owner of the 'hotel'). We moved upmarket to the YHA at Bellever.

rooms were beautifully decorated, beds comfortable with really nice bedding. tea and coffee in the room an absolute plus with good size mugs and yummy biscuits. view from room was fantastic, staff were helpful and pleasant. breakfast was included and was a good hearty meal well cooked. i will definitely stay again on my next visit to the uk.
