“A little gem!”

St Elizabeth's House

21 Jun 2007

This is the first time I have been so impressed with a hotel that I have been bothered to review it!

It is a small boutique hotel with a fantastic eye for detail, the decor is great, obviously pretty new, and spotlessly clean.

The staff were super friendly and for such a nice hotel the bar prices were v reasonable.

My only, small, criticism would be the availability of food, we were staying there for a concert - the staff were aware of this and booked our taxi for 7pm - the restaurant was open from 7 til 9 but we were advised we would be able to get bar snacks from 5. When we went to order a snack at 6 pm we were advised bar snacks were not available until 7 pm - which seems a bit crazy to me -especially as there were 4 other people staying there also going to concerts and needing to leave at 7pm.

They did however let us order sandwiches and kept them in the fridge until we got back!

All in all this is the nicest hotel I think I have stayed in, beating many bigger 5 star hotels hands down. I would haved no hesitation going back - but would be aware of the meal situation if I am going to a concert!

“Fantastic Rooms!”

We stayed at St. Elizabeth's for two nights and the room and bathroom were great - comfortable bed, awesome shower & bath, all nicely appointed. We were planning a weekend of visiting National Trust properties, and this was a great location. Close enough to everything and yet removed in a beautiful setting.

Our only issue was with the front desk. We had booked online for Friday and Saturday night, but when we arrived they had our reservation for Saturday and Sunday night. Fortunately they were able to accommodate us Friday night. When we checked out there were problems with the credit card machine and the staff person became really frustrated, especially as the line mounted for people to check out. It took us over 30 minutes to check out (which included several attempts with different cards and a call to their accounts team). The problem wasn't with our card and all I ever heard was that it was because we were paying with a different card from the one we held the reservation under - but we held the room with an Amex card and then at check out they said they didn't take Amex . . . so it never made any sense. Assuming you don't have these issues - this is a wonderful facility that I would highly recommend.

Directions to hotel were spot on, very easy to find, room was elegant, modern but comfortable, quality furnishings. Bathroom needed a shelf fitting for your toothbrush etc. Tea cooffe good, whole jug of fresh milk, tray tends to be full of fruit teas, who ever uses these? Nice bar area, comfy chairs and sofas. The big down was that staying two nights we couldn't get in for dinner, no mention of need to book dinner when making the room booking.
good choice at breakfast. Stunning location, pretty gardens.3 disabled parking places was helpful, very accessable for disabled persons. Staff as ever in UK very young and inexperienced.

“wonderful retreat”

St Elizabeth's House

28 May 2007

We stayed here just one night B and B over the bank holiday weekend. We had the most basic of rooms (apparantly) but it was lovely. Beautiful chic decor - a shower and bath to die for. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rest of the hotel was decorated in chic style - check out the unusual sinks in the loby toilets!
The grounds were beautiful - an idyllic retreat.
Breakfast took half an hour to arrive but they were short staffed it would seem, and we were in no hurry and read our complimentary newspapers while we waited.
We paid 70 pounds each for our stay, and were impressed.
We would love to stay again but next time try out the luxery rooms

“A hidden gem”

Rooms are of an excellent standard with bathrooms of exceptional quality. The evening dinner was very good but breakfast a bit indifferent. Staff are very attentive and friendly which made the stay that much more enjoyable.
The room I had was affected by traffic noise in the morning but I regarded this as only a small irritant.
Nice gardens and location make this a very enjoyable venue although a little expensive at advertised room rates.
