We were recommended to The Palace Hotel in Paignton and were welcome very cordially by the staff. My partner and I like finding our way around on our own, and that's one of the reasons we like Devon so much.
We thought we would start with a walk around Torquay as we had heard of Agatha Christie's famous Mile. Luckily the hotel had a CD called Agatha Christie, My Torquay, My Life, My Places, My Devon, which we listened to before setting off.
As it transpired, we took the CD with us and played it as we walked. It brought to life so many aspects of Torquay we would not known about. My partner, who loves the author's books, found it really fascinating.
I got to wondering why more recordings of this kind are not available. When we visited the Roman Baths in Bath, they had audio handsets and it made the visit all that more enjoyable and stimulating.
If anyone knows of places one can buy audio CD's of interesting walks, I'd be pleased to know about them.
