Having read the reviews I was a little disappointed with our stay.
Location was excellent, within walking distance of harbour and all available amenities, and there really are plenty of places to choose from to eat.
Parking was ok as it was outside of the main season but we parked in a side street anyway and left the car there for Saturday and Sunday and walked everywhere.
When we arrived the host noticed that I use a stick and said that originally he was going to put us in a room further upstairs but we’d better take the one on the lower floor. How I wish we’d asked if we could just stick with our original booked room for unfortunately as soon as the bedroom door was opened the smell hit us, stale cigarette smoke. The smell must be in the old wallpaper because there were no windows open or anything to suggest it was just the previous occupants breaking the rules and the landlord never mentioned it so I assumed he was oblivious to it as you can be to smells in your own home and anyway we felt a little too embarrassed to say anything as he’d been ‘kind’ enough to insist on a change of room for us .How can you walk into someone’s home and tell them it smells. Usually, of course when you take up occupancy of a hotel room the windows are all open. However, it really put us off and made us feel the room was dirty and so started checking around. It was in fact very clean but very shabby, decor and bedding are due for an update. The box of tissues was a nice touch and I’m sure some people would have made good use of the mini fridge. The room was quite small and our case had to sit on the chair but that wasn’t a major problem.
Although there was a nasty step into the bathroom and the door wouldn't stay shut unless you locked it, the facilities in the bathroom were clean, there was no hot water to the basin and no signage regarding this, but the shower was great, the towels were lovely and there was bar of soap and sachet of shampoo provided for both of us.
The bed was very comfy.
The hosts were very pleasant.
The breakfast was swiftly served and although there was a reasonable choice of cereal, yogurt, toast and spreads there was also the additional cooked breakfast which was very nicely cooked and presented if perhaps a touch meagre.
Redecorate and we'd be back in a flash!
