Having watched C4's 'The Hotel', we were extremely excited to have booked a break at The Grosvenor. We stayed Monday - Friday, and paid for Dinner bed and breakfast... which I would recommend.
We were greeted with a warm welcome, and directed to our room by the lovely Karen. It was EXACTLY like the TV show... as we opened our room to find an elderly couple sat in the bed, with a cup of tea!! Karen quickly sorted it out, and the couple in our room were packed up and moved to their correct room within 5 minutes... which was a bit awkward, but no hassle for us.
Our room was lovely. Really, really big, master room with a large bed and a separate room for the kids, with a double bed and bunk beds. Our room also had tea/coffee making facilities, a fridge and a nice view over the pool.
Breakfast and dinner was nice. Good, traditional food and a good choice each night. I didn't feel very well towards the end of the week (nothing to do with the hotel, I might add!) and the had no problems in bringing us up our breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble, and we really appreciated it.
Totally disagree with any previous review that has referred to the hotel as 'dated', as it's not plasma screens you go there for... it's to relive "the great British holiday"!!
Our room was absolutely spotless, as was the hotel itself.
The entertainment was also really good, and it was nice to sit in the bar after dinner and have a few drinks, before we took the kids up to bed... although they wanted to stay down all night!
We had a good look around Torquay, and visited the model village, Paignton Zoo and also Bygones... which I would highly recommend!
All the staff at The Grosvenor were lovely. We got to meet Mark and Allison, plus Elaine, Karen and Dave... who were all really friendly and happy to chat.
We've got a two week villa holiday in Cyprus booked for this year but I can honestly and genuinely say, we are more looking forward to going back to The Grosvenor in the summer... and getting the kids into a bit of dolphin racing!
We were both really pleased to see the hotel doing so well. Mark and his staff really do make it a memorable stay, and they deserve every bit of success they get.
