“Beware of Concierge ticket mark ups”

Hudson Hotel

3 Mar 2008

This hotel was very beautiful but the rooms were extremely small for two people. I paid only $115.00 per night through Priceline and had a private bath so who could complain. I would not however, spend $250.00 a night through the hotel reservations, expedia, orbitz ect........

Visiting multiple cities across the county and Canada, I always used the concierge to find some fair prices on shows, tours, shows ect......in this case he had charged me $200.00 more than the asking price at the box office. Said "well this is NY"...So I fell for it. First time and last time I fall for this. My fault and lesson learned to check out the local box office first...Just be careful that's all. Hope he enjoys his commission!!!

Dumb statement of course he will.

Just an FYI also for visitors

There's a great little Japanese place around the corner that serve $6.00 wine and martini's instead of $25.00 per glass.

My wife and I had 2 nights at the Hudson in Oct 2006 and decided to take my mother and some of the family back to Torquay on 9th & 10th feb after the death of my father. having seen most of the rooms from our previous visit we rang to ask for particular rooms, 4 rooms in total, they were only too pleased to help.
When we arrived I had forgotten how steep the steps were leading up to the hotel, but that would have been o.k as there were 8 of us to help, but when they had taken our money they forgot all about our agreement about selected rooms and put one disabled person on the top floor 3 stories up and my 77 year old mother on the basement down very steep steps. When I protested, they would not discuss my complaints, I was told if I didnt like it I could go elsewhere. Be warned if you have any disability dont stay here, you may be promised a nice balcony room low down but you will probably end up in the attic.

I stayed at the Hudson for 5 nights while travelling from Australia. The hotel has been tastefully renovated to fit the period of the original building. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They obviously take pride in the way the hotel is presented. Its located close to everything and is great value for money in comparison to other UK hotels in which I stayed. An excellent breakfast was served to complete a very pleasant stay. Thanks.

“Decent clean rooms, but lacking any soul”

Decent clean rooms, but lacking any soul. Proprieters friendly, but may want to increase the half hour early breakfast slot and a later checkout time. Not a place to relax, more a stop over for business travellers.
