We stayed here, having originally booked possibily the worst so called 'hotel' in Bournemouth. The Norfolk Royale, had a nice reception, bar area, garden and leisure facilities. The room was of good size, however, some minor amendments would make the room excellent. The curtains had a couple of small holes, and the water leaked from the shower past the shower curtain, but both of these could be easily remedied.
The location is good, and the reception and bar staff were friendly and helpful. However, we might have experienced a bad night in the restaurant, as it took nearly two hours to have a one course meal. The waiting staff are in desperate need of training, as is the manager. Tables were left uncleared, orders had to be requested more than once, and service was extremely slow. There were so many missed opportunities for the waiting staff to turn the atmosphere around and provide good customer service, but these were missed due to lack of experience and good direction from the Restaurant Manager. I have to point out that one member of staff, who worked on reception, was running around all night, working both the reception and restaurant serving meals, whilst others wandered aimlessly. My husband ordered a medium rare steak with pepper sauce, and when it arrived it was well done, with mushroom sauce. No chance of getting a steak knife, and when we pointed out the error, the reply was that the sauce was included in the price. This came down to a translation problem. The restaurant issue needs addressing as it is letting the hotel down.
Overall the room was good, and service around the hotel, except in the restaurant was good.
