We booked a weekend break (11/12th May 2012) via KGB Deals and then read the reviews so I was very apprehensive about what we would be greeted by when we arrived. I'm pleased to say that the staff were welcoming, polite and helpful and that our room, on the second floor, was fine. It was a good size and we had no problems with hygiene or the plumbing. We also had use of a small balcony which was great as the weather was lovely. On the first night we could just about hear music coming from somewhere but it was in no way disturbing. On the second night there was a wedding reception and a dance event and we didn't hear a thing from either.
I'd checked out the location of the hotel on Google maps and knew it was a short walk to the sea front and I would say a good walk to Bournemouth town centre. The roads around the hotel are pleasant and were quiet when we were there.
Breakfast was more than adequate and staff in the dining room were efficient in replenishing supplies when they began to run low. The staff were also polite which is more than can be said for some of the guests we heard!
Despite seeing coaches of tourists arriving, the wedding and the dance event, the hotel didn't seemed overcrowded and there was room on the car park. There are nice gardens to the side of the hotel for those who smoke to go and sit in. We didn't use the pool so I can't comment on that.
The hotel is a bit of a rabbit warren with steps up and down between different levels and perhaps some areas do need a bit of a face lift but it is graded 3 Star and as far as our stay was concerned it more than met this rating. Perhaps I wouldn't have been so happy if I'd paid the regular price for the hotel but all I can say is that if you have an issue, don't moan after you get home. Check your room over when you arrive and speak to the manager/staff if you're not happy with something. Give them chance to rectify it there and then.
