“Suncliffe Hotel Bournemouth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2012

Just returned from a short break at the Suncliffe Hotel Bournemouth with friends... enjoyed our stay, food very good, room with sea view which was nice. All staff including the room attendants were extremely pleasant, helpful and efficient. Overall a nice experience.

“a quiet hen weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2012

On arrival my niece was shocked to be asked for £100 pp because it was a hen party having booked months in advance and having told them, they had not told her that. she paid £100 per room.we had five rooms for ten of us, a couple of family rooms don't know why. my room was nice enough but very hot dispite radiators being off. Breakfast very good evening meal ok, should of gone out though on first night as well. After eating we went to the bar area on the walk up my niece said oh good karoke, that said it all really.
We had 2 sixteen year olds withus so we only hit the town for a meal and shopping. They had a disco second night which was better though i think we were the actual entertainment. We were only merry.

Dear holsgirlSailsbury,

At the Suncliff hotel to comfort, safety and wellbeing of our every single one of guests is paramount. We do issue our single sex groups of a certain size with a bond, an agreement that protects the hotels guests and staff from any potential loud, excessive or abusive behaviour. We find it to be a very effective deterrent. It is imposable for us to predict a group’s behaviour prior to their arrival so we fine we must make a 'blanket' ruling for all groups regardless of the room type booked/alocated.
Thank you for not allowing this little fact to taint to entire review and leave a false impression of the hotel to our Tripadvisor users.

We do make every attempt to provide varied entainment so I am glad to hear that there was something to your taste.

I do hope that you will return to us again.

Best wishes,

Andrew Potter

“Jones family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2012

We booked to stay here for 3 nights during February half term unfortunately during our stay our dad was taken into hospital and we had to extend our stay by another 3 nights. The Management and staff of the hotel couldn't have been more helpful during a difficult time. Due to our circumstances we had to change rooms a couple of times but the standard of the rooms was very good and we had no complaints. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice. We also booked for an evening meal and the Sunday carvery which were both excellent.
We would definitely return to this hotel.

Dear Jones Family,

I am so glad to that we were able to provide some support over clearly quite a difficult time.

It seems that you are more that qualified to comment about our bedrooms as you did manage to see quite a few.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel.

We all look forward to your return visit.

Best wishes,

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2012

I appreciate that the hotel was in the process of undertaking some redecoration and as we visited out of season that was to be expected. But the welcome we received was not at all friendly, nor were the staff we met during breakfast. The room was VERY basic and tiny, but it was clean and we were out most of the day. The location was the only high point as it was a short walk to the beach and town centre. My biggest let down was breakfast. I prefer a continental breakfast and was met with a stale french stick and some plastic looking square cheese. No selection of cheese, hams, breads and preserves!!!

Dear Gemma D,

So sorry you were disappointed with your stay. I was not made aware of this. I can’t help but feel I could have helped(?)

It is VERY rare indeed that we receive anything but positive feedback towards our staff. We have a very hardworking, professional and dedicated team. Please see other review above and below this for evidence of this.

We try very hard to provide a wide selection of quality, fresh and desirable food for all our meals. We do have a selection of preserves and usually three types of cheese, either bread rolls or sliced bread.

In summary: I feel your score is a little harsh. However we are all entitled to our own opinions. I do you you haven’t been put off returning to us in the future.

Many thanks,

Andrew Potter

“Good location but updating required”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2012

The Suncliff is part of a three hotel chain in Bournemouth, a short walk into the main town or down the path to the beach. The hotel is a three star but in areas could do with modernising and updating. We were staying for two nights and the room which we were given there had been attempts to freshen up but a wall of new wallpaper and a new cover for the headboard couldn't hide the fact that money needs to be spent. The mattress was worn out and the shower was useless and the bathroom just needed to be deep cleaned to remove mould and rust. We reported both the shower and mattress and said that we would be happy to stay in the room for another night if they could resolve the shower issue. We came back to the hotel after being out for the day to find that the shower hadn't been fixed. We spoke to the main reception and they helped us move rooms to a newer part of the hotel. Again though - cheap furniture and very small with the window not fitting correctly and the shower screen not fitting.

The food served for breakfast was of a good standard however, the basement room had hardly any natural daylight and when we asked to be sat near a high level window we were placed there begrudgingly. Also on the Saturday night at 1am we had to wait for 10 minutes for the porter to return so we could get our key back to our room.

The main reception staff however are the best thing about the hotel and they couldn't have acted better to all our requests and comments. Its just a shame that the hotel lets them down.

Room Tip: Ask to be placed on a higher level as music from the ground floor disco can still be heard on 1st fl...

Dear Claire-Love,

Thank you for your informative review. We are blessed to have a team of dedicated and hardworking staff who care greatly about the success of this hotel and its guests, I feel this is rare to see in such a large hotel. The majority of guests take the time to comment on how our hotel is very warm and friendly.

To-date we have invested huge amounts of our profits into improving the product we offer our guests. And at time where literally every penny counts and hotels all around ours are closing down, I genuinely feel that our continued investment is testament to our success. Much of the investment being plunged into the hotel is “hidden” behind the scenes such as: new boilers, relining of the swimming pool, updating our high speed wireless internet access, updating our lift mechanics, increasing our signal strength for the installation of brand new flat screen TV with free view throughout the hotel, the list is seemingly endless. I strongly feel that the above shows our commitment to our regular guests and future guests alike. I am sorry if this was not apparent however I can assure you that we have many guests that return to us year after year and they have all noticed massive improvements in the past 2-3 years.

I do hope that you will return to us in the future and I look forward to showing you more of the improvement that we are continuing to make.

Best wishes,

Andrew Potter
