We were in Brighton for my Hen Party and my gorgeous bridesmaid picked this restaurant for my hens and I based on the glowing reviews on here. Perhaps we went to the wrong restaurant??
We arrived and were shown to a table more suited to battery hens. We sneaked over to a larger table just in time as two more similar sized parties came in and squished onto their designated tables. The wine list was pretty limited so we ordered jugs of Sangria which arrived around 10 minutes after ordering, without glasses. We saw our waiter heading towards us with the glasses but clearly something more exciting was happening elsewhere as he dumped them on a table to seat another party and left them there. We fetched them ourselves before dying of thirst.
They took our order and warned us those having the paella might have to wait 15 mins as this was cooked from scratch. No worries, that's not a long time to wait, we thought. 30 mins later the first tapas dishes arrived then over the course of the next 45 minutes, the remaining dishes arrived. This haphazard method of serving customers was rife throughout. Sure, tapas is a number of little dishes but they aren't different courses. Who wants to sit and eat a plate of chorizo, wait 10 mins, eat some salad, wait 15 mins then eat some spinach and cheese croquettes.
The entertainment was okay but we really weren't really interested at this point.
Our waiter had rather special way of clearing our table; we were somewhat perturbed by him clicking his fingers and pointing to the plates so that we would pass them to him. Perhaps he thought we should trot off to the kitchen and maybe help out with the washing up?
When at last the bill arrived, the cheeky chaps had added a nice 10% service charge which under no circumstances were we going to pay. Upon explaining this, our ever more unfriendly waiter threw the money back at us and waltzed off. We took the money to the bar in the end although would happily have walked out without any conscience.
What a disappointing experience. There is another tapas bar we found the next day when we were out and about, maybe worth heading there instead...
