“Deluxe Rooms are great”

The De Vere Grand Brighton

13 May 2008

After reading the reviews here definitely had to book the Deluxe King Sea View Room at The Grand and was very impressed with the size of the room and friendliness of the staff. I got a deal for one night at £160 which exceeded the £100 I had planned to spend, but provided the most romantic weekend I could imagine. We tested the concierge service to the full, relaxed with breakfast delivered to the room and loved the whirlpool bath.

Best Tip: After booking a room with a deal online, call the hotel direct and discuss where you would like your room (this is usually not set). I requested the top floor at the centre front (the largest balconies and breathtaking view).

This was the hottest day of the Summer so far and the Air Con in the Deluxe rooms handled it fine. The noise of the beach and road below was fine from the 6th floor. Old fashioned flair.

You've got to treat yourself!

We booked at the last minute and got a great deal. The staff were great. Despite arriving at 10pm it was no problem to change the feather pillows and duvet in the second of our 2 rooms as one of us is allergic to feathers. In general they were all very friendly even the ones we met in passing in the corridors said hello.
The breakfast was great, every thing very fresh and constantly refilled. The hotel was very busy so there were some queues to be seated by the time we were leaving but not for us and we weren't that early.
The rooms were lovely if slightly shabby but by no means run down. The were very hot though.
The pool and leisure facilities were great.
Overall we would definately go back.

“old fashioned friendly grandeur”

Best thing is friendly, helpful service from all staff. Well organised arrangements for peak times eg check out Sunday 11am. Breakfast very pleasant, often restocked and plenty of staff available. Nice pool, sauna etc. Easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, cinema etc.
Lovely old fashioned grandeur of building. Fantastic for anyone wanting to sit in conservatory and view the sea, interested in the original features in the ceilings or stairways or taking a drink in the bar beneath the chandeliers.
Don't go if you want ultra modern, ultra fresh "branded" decor. No air conditioning and some of decor not entirely fresh but well equipped and spacious otherwise .
Lovely staff and friendly service eg arrived after 10pm on Friday night and didn't realise until in room that all bedware was feather based. Went to reception to request hypo-allergenic stuff. Reception offered apologies that housekeeping staff had clocked off, but night porters would try to find it. Then duty manager turned up and promised he would sort it asap. We had a drink in the bar, and went back to the room rather disappointed to see no extra bedding on display. Oh ye of little faith! All bedding in the room had been replaced and beds remade up in the time it took us to have a drink.

“Good Value for money”

The De Vere Grand Brighton

12 Apr 2008

Spent 2 nights last week in a family room with our 2 children (aged 4 & 8). Room was great with plenty of room and an enormous bathroom. All staff were very friendly and we were made to feel welcome in the bar area even with our children in tow! Breakfasts were excellent. The only disappointment was the pool being closed, but in the hotels defence we did receive a call from them to warn us and to be told that they would provide transportation to 2 alternative venues.

My husband and I stayed here in January and were upgraded to a seafront suite, so we didn't have great expectations for this visit at 145gbp per night for family room accomodation. We were therefore thrilled that this trip was able to surpass our expectations. The kids had a great time and we will definitely be visiting again!

“Shabby excuse for a five star hotel”

The De Vere Grand Brighton

9 Apr 2008

You may think that charging £25 to park your car is bad enough. But this five star hotel does not offer value for money overall. The room we stayed in, although spacious, was shabby with stained and scuffed furniture and the room was too warm even though it was cold outside and the heating was not on. We couldn't open the window for fresh air because of the noise of the hotel.

The hotel lounge is tiny and there was a convention when we arrived so we had difficulty finding somewhere to sit for a drink and it was very noisy and crowded.

To escape the noise of the lounge we went to the dining room at 6.56pm. The waiter rudely said they weren't open until 7pm but when we said about the crush outside, he led us to a table close by the door and when we asked if the tables by the window were free, he said 'this table is reserved for people who come early'. Needless to say we insisted on a window table.

The menu for a 5star hotel was meagre and limited although well cooked.

This hotel is shabby and over-priced. They should sort out the hotel's parking problem immediately AND inform each and every person who books of this charge.
