“good hotel, great location”

Thistle Brighton

19 Aug 2007

I used to be a regular at the Thistle in Brighton as work took me there every few weeks. I booked in after a years absence and nothing had changed. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful and check in was quick and efficient. The room was clean and tidy and the air conditioning kept the temperature down.

Breakfast was great and the views over the pier are fantastic.

Will stay again next time I visit Brighton

“Must Try Harder!”

Thistle Brighton

11 Aug 2007

We booked this hotel at the last minute for a mid-week break and arrived shortly before 1pm.

On asking whether it was possible to check in so that i could feed my 6 month old baby in private, we were curtly told that check in was from 2pm only. We proceeded to sit down in the lobby so that i could feed my daughter and retrieve a fresh set of clothes and nappies and miraculously not only did a room become available but we were also upgraded to a larger room with a sea view.

Overall the room (311) was a fantastic size and comfortably accomodated our travel cot AND stroller without having to climb over furnniture. Unfortunately the air conditioning was useless and the coolest temperature for our stay was 24 degrees. Luckily, i had remembered some light bedding for my daughters cot thanks to previous reviews about this so we made do rather than add a noisy and obtrusive portable unit to our room.

However, the room was quiet and clean.

We had a fantastic day out and returned to the hotel at about 10pm and decided to have cofffee and dessert before bed. Although the service was quick for my husbands cold drink, i had to wait over 20 minutes for my coffee and strawberry tart.

So although i would stay here again, i would only do so at a discount rate (£99 night) and i would not eat/drink here but rather wander out of the back entrance and choose from the HUGE selection of cafes and restaurants on the doorstep.

“Disappointing”

Thistle Brighton

6 Aug 2007

In what seemed to be the busiest weekend in Brighton so far, options were very limited.
The Thistle being HUGE, still had rooms available.
The hotel is in the very centre and right next to the Pier, facing the sea.
From the moment you walk in, you get a feeling that the hotel really need an urgent restyling.
I have read other comments about those red corridors and believe me, it's like being in the middle of a David Lynch movie! Very old fashion, stuffy, smelly.
We were told to check in after 2pm, we turned up at 2.30 but we were still asked to wait for an extra 20 minutes.
The other thing that disappointed me was that even though a double room can easily range around £260, you're still expected to pay for just about everything: pay-per-view on your telly, call charges to Europe average around £6 per minute (!), wireless internet has to be paid for, and if you feel peckish a hamburger will set you back at about £10!!!
The room smelt funny, pictures on the walls were all squaint and a lampshade was dirty with liquid that had dried up on it and left a bad stain.
The TV had only about 10 channels plus the already mentioned pay-per-view that charged an astonishing £7.95 per movie!
Staff was polite and breakfast was very satisfying.

“Great location”

Thistle Brighton

24 Jul 2007

Booked the hotel through a website on line at a good price considering it were a weekend at the start of the peak season. The hotel rooms are comfortable and clean and the bed was very comfortable indeed.

I have no complaints at all about the hotel it was good clean, polite and friendly. My only concern was that the price I was quoted on line nearly became an issue when I got the final bill had I not been quite insistent I would have been charged £120 more than quoted at my booking but I had a voucher and the hotel honoured it. People need to be careful about these cheap late booking sites I am not sure how legally binding they are. Would I return to the hotel? Yes, I would even at the hotels full price. Very good weekend in a great location hotel on the seafront.
