I stayed at this Brighton area hotel for four nights in December (2002). Although there were lots of problems that I encoutered with my short stay there, there was so much charm in both the physical setting, and the employees of this hotel, and with the local people I met in the Hotel bar there, that I have given it a four star rating... :-).But this hotel still has a long ways to go to be a place I would always want to stay at during my visits to the Brighton area. This hotel is actually in the town of Hove, which is adjacent to Brighton, and one would be hardpressed to discern any boundary between these two cities, just a few blocks further west from the Brighton Pier and the Royal Pavilion....:-).The Hotel is in an old but charming building, with a restaurant, bar, and bar parlor room. Also has a fair sized pool, which I didn't use while I was staying there. The food was good, but not great. The Hotel has labyrinth hallways, it was easy to get lost in there going back and forth to my room, but it was a neat hotel to get lost in!!....:-) Housekeeping was good, I got the feeling that the staff cared about me, and that counts for everything!!!Must be a famous Brighton area hotel, because amongst the photo's on the wall in the little lobby near the front desk, was British Prime Minister Tony Blair's. The included breakfast was nice, but nothing great. The price per night I paid was around $110 (U.S.), which I consider quite reasonable.Although some of the staff members I encountered were less than professional, and/or unfriendly, as above mentioned, I met so many neat and nice staff members!! My thanks and great appreciation to Jason, their one and only porter (that I saw--and one of the local people who worked at the Hotel). One staff member was from the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, the two, attractive young female bartenders were both from Prague in the Czech Republic, the very nice waiter who served me at breakfast one morning was from Italy, one of the front desk staff members was from Greece vita!). One of the graveyard shift night porters was from the Philippines. My room was clean and the layout interesting, and the fixtures nice, but the bathroom was quite small. Even with the several problems I encountered during my stay there, the staff was very helpful in getting them sorted out.All in all, this hotel has great charm, and I would definitely give it another chance the next time I am in the Brighton area!!
