“Not bowled over”

The Royal Pavilion Townhouse Hotel

6 May 2008

Stayed one night here and not in a particular rush to return. Room was clean, though carpet quite stained. Also noted unattractive stain on back of bedspread. Bathroom very nice. Bed not great. Breakfast very poor - very stale croissants (brick like), off grapefruit juice (fizzy), cold toast and ungenerous portions of cooked items which seemed to have been sitting around for a while before they reached us. Paid £70 for the room at a last minute price and would have been unhappy to have paid any more.

This hotel is a very nice change from the normal, new build chain hotels I normally stay in. However, it must be noted that the building is old; if you want perfect and spotless stay in a Travel Lodge.

The room was lovely. The decoration was fantastic, although the carpet was in need of a good shampoo.

The only let down was just before I checked out. I had booked the hotel for a night out in Brighton, so was late getting up. I rang down to reception and asked to stay an extra hour and was told this would be no problem. However, before the hour was up I had the manager banging on the door and received a telling off more suited to a petulant child than a paying customer. This was, of course, outrageous and ruined an otherwise enjoyable stay. Unfortunately, this is the memory of the hotel I have left with. A disappointment.

Also worth noting I paid less for the room through Hotels.com than I was quoted over the phone. I saved £30 on a one night booking.

“Lovely hotel”

The Royal Pavilion Townhouse Hotel

7 Nov 2007

My boyfriend & I stayed here on 4th-6th November. We booked late via Hotels.com £130.00 for 2 nights (including breakfast). The hotel has 8 themed rooms and because it is a listed building there are no lifts but the climb to the top of the hotel was worth it as we have never seem a hotel room decorated like this one. We were given a lovely room called the Paradise Cove at the top of the hotel which has a tropical theme and a painted mural gives the feeling of being on a hilltop veranda looking over a bay. The room was clean, comfortable bed with tea/coffee facilities and had a huge double shower together with Molton Brown products. Breakfast was great and staff very nice and helpful. Location is very central with plenty of restaurants near by (a whole street full of choice such as Thai, Chinese, and Steak Houses behind the hotel) and hotel was within walking distance to the pier. Also NCP car parking across from Hotel.

If you want to stay in the many chain of usual hotels were all the rooms look the same then do so. However if you are want something a little bit different, fun and for a special occasion then I would certainly recommend and we felt that it was value for money.

“Wonderful stay, very helpful staff, beautiful room”

We stayed at this hotel earlier this week, and had a wonderful time. We were in the Bejing Dragon room, loved the decoration and the jacuzzi bath. The staff could not have been more helpful, and were very good in providing a special breakfast for my vegetarian boyfriend.

The only tiny niggle was that the wifi was slow, but I was still able to get the work done that I needed to. It wasn't a big problem at all.

I would recommend this to anyone. Very good value.

“Quite nice but looking worn”

The Royal Pavilion Townhouse Hotel

29 Sep 2007

Stayed here last thursday night for my birthday. We had the Louis room which was nice and had a good view of the square / sea.

The staff were really helpful and pleasant, a good breakfast brought to our room and lovely molton brown products in the bathroom.

The only downfall was that it felt a bit worn, the bathroom floor needed redoing and the bed was full of squeeks even if you just turned over and the towels thin - not what you would expect for £100 a night.
