“Look no further than Square. Definately go here, best boutique hotel in Brighto”

Square

1 Apr 2008

I have just returned from a super stay at the Square hotel where the ambience, rooms and staff were delightful..

Firstly it is impossible to get a room in Brighton for 1 night and although Square follow this policy they were really helpful in waiting for friday bookings to happen before calling me to say there was 1 free that i could have for the saturday night..

Then they gave me a courtesy call on the morning and offered early check-in and when i got there they upgraded me to the most beautiful of penthouse rooms which resembles a sloane square boutique flat.. i leterally didn't want to leave as the room made me feel like a celebrity for the day!

They recommended a wonderful restaurant which was amazing and generally i cannot fault any aspect of the stay..

The staff were great, the clientelle are what you expect and the hotel is very quiet and perfect for anyone looking for a perfect retreal in Brighton..

If only they could of brought me sunshine it would of been the prefect day, but you can't have everthing i guess!

Thanks to everyone at square for going the extra mile to make everything perfect..

good location but go for large room as the smaller room, nice as it was, was very cramped for the 5 star fee.
staff were lovely
generally felt it was more a b&b than a hotel although a very smzrt one.

We stayed there for one night and it was OK. Clean and the room was looking smart enough. Not much else to say really. Like most of this type of smart and trendy B&B's they are held together with bluetack - this is a little better than some and quite freindly.

“Awful - avoid at all costs”

My wife booked us a two night (Friday and Saturday) stay at this hotel - for £200 per night. We arrived at 7:15pm on the Friday and had left to drive home again an hour later!
We hadn't stayed at this hotel previously (although we are seasoned visitors to 'premium' hotels, so have a pretty good idea of what you can expect for your money), however the very enticing web site plus the 'reassuringly expensive' room rate led us to expect someting rather exceptional. Unfortunatley the exceptional was entirely negative. Entirely misrepresented.
My wife checked in first whilst I found somewhere to park the car. When I got to the hotel, I was shown to 'Room 1' along a dark, dingy corridor that reminded me of my student digs from 25 years ago - I dreaded to see the other side of the bedroom door - actually, the room was a triumph of style over substance and whilst not exactly 'dirty', had a rather grubby, seedy ambiance. The bed spread had the look of being able to be 'grown in cluture' under lab conditions....Plus, the room was poky and hot - impossible to leave the window open due to the noise from outside from traffic and passers by. My wife had asked specifically when booking whether it was 'noisy' and had been assured it was not - untrue. We were looking for a two night rest - we quickly realised the best place for that would be at home - so, we left for the 100 mile drive home again. I explained to the lady on 'reception' (the bar) that we were simply not prepared to pay £200 per night for the room - we are not prepared to be ripped-off in this way. She muttered something about 'a refund' and we were on our way with some relief. We took the view that to stay for one night and complain the next morning just wasn't sufficent given our disappointment.
We have sent the hotel 4 e mails asking politely for the return of our £200 'deposit' - they have not even had the courtesy to reply. (their speed of response was exemplary when we were booking the room however!) Now I am suing them in County Court for the return of our money.
So, in summary, shabby, ridiculously expensive, pathetic customer service, a complete rip-off.
You have been warned!!
