We had a great stay here. The staff are really friendly and helpful - they even saved us money by moving us from two twins to a triple. The room was spotless, the bathroom clean, the shower was powerful, the TV worked, tea and coffee was provided, windows opened - all the things the other reviewers didn't get - so either we were very lucky or they're making a mountain over a molehill.

Yes it is used by German students, and there is a nightclub downstairs – so we were very disappointed to return from our night out to find everyone tucked up in bed.

Is it a place I’d take my elderly relatives? No, but then again I’m not so naive / tight-fisted as to book the cheapest hotel in town and then expect the Ritz. You get what you pay for and this hotel provides excellent value for money. The location makes it a great base for a weekend in Brighton.

Having looked at the website, the hotel looked like a pleasant place to stay. On arrival, we realised it was not. The reception area gives off much more of a grotty youth hostel feel and the staff all seem a bit clueless.

There were a few of us staying in the hotel. One member of the party was in a single room. However, this was an ajoining room and the connecting door did not lock. There were also blood stains on her sheets, lovely. In my twin room, we discovered on arrival drawers filled with opened packets of biscuits, deodrant, sanitary towels and used tissues. Management did come and remove these, but the cleaner responsible insisted the room was clean and she had checked it herself...not very thoroughly it seemed.

Also, there was no soap or shower gel etc provided - which for £80 a night you pretty much expect. When we asked for this, reception were reluctant to provide anything but ultimately did give us some nasty cheap sachets of shower gel.

Breakfast looked very unappetising and again was much more hostel standard than hotel. (custard creams and bourbon biscuits - weird). You also had to pay extra if you wanted to 'upgrade' to a hot breakfast! We didn't like our chances so went to M&S instead.

Very basic and grotty - a total rip off, you could probably find a nicer hostel. Don't stay there!!!

DON'T BOOK THIS HOTEL AND DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. i booked with good faith through an website the phots looked ok. On arrival in the reception arear i was immediatly apprehensive, bare floor boards and a reception area that reminded me of my schools general office with the youths to match it is more like a hostel than hotel. The bedroom was less than basic,one window had been replaced with frosted glass and sealed. The other window had one handle missing and was stuck. The bed had seen much better days and the bathroom-if i tell you that the shower nozzle looked like it had a family growing there you will get the picture. On returning back to the reception we refused to pay the balance.When booking i explained that the couple were in there 70s and would it be suitable they said yes. This poor elderly couple were to frightened to stay.The manager has refused to pay back the £170 that they took for a deposit saying that the confirmation letter explained. But hey guess what you don't get that till you have paid the deposit. SO DON'T PART WITH YOUR MONEY UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE ROOM OR BETTER STILL DON'T GO THERE -TOTALLY NOT RECOMMENDED

One night we stayed in this place!! To start with, there was the smell of smoke everywhere in the hotel, even in the lifts and outside our rooms on the 2nd floor, despite a no smoking sign in reception. There was scaffolding all around the hotel, and we could not open the windows in our rooms. We could hear the workman outside using abusive language to one another, and because of this the curtains were drawn as it was not a pleasant site. The windows were dirty as well. The bath had a handrail loose, and this caused one of us to suffer some bruises after a fall. We had not been previously informed that there was a nightclub on the ground floor next to reception, and the loud music they had on until after 2am in the morning! There was people shouting and swearing, with cars revving up loud outside. This was no place to have a decent night's sleep. We went to have breakfast the next morning, and there was uncovered food left there, which we decided to leave it. If you were stuck in Brighton for somewhere to stay, and this was the last resort, you may be better off sleeping in your car.
