“Modern, friendly townhouse”

Alvia Hotel

Save Review
4 of 5 stars
Middlesex, U.K.

The Alvia is a modern, tastefully decorated hotel with a warm, homely atmosphere.

The hotel is in a good location - 3 mins walk to the seafront, 5/10 mins walk to Brighton pier and 15 mins walk to the main shopping area. My husband and I felt that it was a good location, but any further away and we would have been a little disappointed (we like to be in the thick of it!!)

St. James's Street is 3 mins walk away and has lots of cafes, restaurants and shops. We had a lovely Chinese meal there on our last night.

The staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough. The free breakfast was superb. There was lots of choice (english, continental, vegetarian), lots of it and it was beautifully cooked and presented.

The hotel itself is a typical townhouse - quite narrow with around 4 floors. It is breautifully decorated and gives a feel of just having been refurbished. We stayed in room 10 which was on the very top floor (Venetian room) and were told it had recently been re-decorated. It was a lovely room with LCD tv on the wall, leather furniture etc. However, I could imagine that the elderly or infirm would find climbing all those stairs difficult. Also, the walls are quite thin. Our bathroom was in between us and the room next door so we couldn't here anyone. However, when we were in the bathroom we could. Not sure whether this set up is the same for all rooms, but it's something to bear in mind.

The hotel offers parking vouchers in the form of scratch cards - £5 per voucher for 24 hrs. This is good value and saved us a lot of hassle. The only disadvantage is that the hotel is on a relatively busy road and it's quite difficult to find a space. On our 1st night we had to park 2 roads away. It took us about 5/10 mins to walk to our car. However, Sundays are free, which saved us £5, and on our last night we were able to park right outside.

Overall, a lovely, modern, friendly hotel. We would stay here again, but advise anyone who finds climbing stairs difficult to think again.

“Alvia Hotel - Nice Choice”

Alvia Hotel

If you are looking for a place to stay in Brighton - the Alvia Hotel is worth considering.

Promoting itself as a boutique hotel, the Alvia is really a good quality Bed & Breakfast.

The decor and furnishing are impressive and the room comes with a DVD/CD player - a real plus if we had planned ahead.

The location is ideal, being at the edge of the bohemian Kemp Town area, and only seconds from the sea.

It also has the advantage of being quieter than some other hotels in Brighton when noise at night is likely to be a negative factor.

This is a mix between a boutique hotel and and B & B. It has the high quality linens, dish TV and great bathroom soaps and lotions, but feels real intimate and more like your a guest of a rich friend. The location is great and close whatever scene you may be into in Brighton. By the way Brighton is a great weekend spot if you are in the UK!

“Clean, Modern... But very small!”

Alvia Hotel

23 May 2007

We stayed here at the end of May. Having been to Brighton before a couple of times i know how hard it is to pay less than "60 a night for a double room.

This B&B is not a boutique hotel like it claims, it is a nice modern clean b&b, however some ikea furniture does not make it 'boutique'. The hotel staff were polite, but not overtly friendly... they didnt offer anything except to check us in.
The room was tiny!! This is not a hotel room, but a bedroom. The room had a double bed, and very little room to walk round the bed! This was it, at times it did feel claustraphobic!! However, it was very clean and modernly furnished!! The bathroom again was small, but again couldnt fault the cleanliness of the place.

Breakfast is openly described as FLEXIBLE however, in my opinion serving breakfast between 8am-9am is not flexible! However it was pleasant, and again room was clean.

As with most b&b's there were not staffed often, however this seemed to be less than most. It was deserted after 11am!! We left our bags by reception on the last day as advised, yet did not feel particularly safe, all the room keys were on disply so we could have happily helped ourselves and they would have been none the wiser as to the culprits! We didnt!!

Overall this wasnt a bad stay, i have had worse but i have had better. For the same price you can book in the Travel Inn. Although no frills, it has more room and a bigger bathroom!!

If you are looking for clean, good location, fairly modern than this is it, but the prices do not always reflect what you get in brighton!!!
