“Had a great stay”

Colson House

5 Mar 2008

Stayed here on the 28th of jan for 2 nights. I stayed in the john wayne room pictured. It was a quaint little room!

Positives:
Good location, can see the sea as soon as you leave the B&B.
Everywhere is in walkable distance, especially the Pavillion.
Comfy Bed, 2 pillows.
Nice small bathroom. Good shower.
Very clean, immaculate almost!
no noise

Negatives:
Breakfast was ok, enjoyed it but could have offered more for the fry up.
Could have had more brighton info.
single glazing, the draft was really cold coming through the window, although it was very windy the first night.

“Clean and cosy”

Colson House

28 Feb 2008

I stayed with my 13 year old daughter in the Judy Garland room. The double bed was really comfy (even though I was sharing it with a fidgety teenager), the pillows were rather hard but they weren't paper thin like in many hotels and we had 2 each. The room was a comfortable temperature all night and the heavy curtains kept the light out until we were ready to wake up - which meant we nearly missed breakfast despite it continuing until 9.15! Brighton is a busy town so there was some traffic noise outside but there was no noise from rowdy people either inside or outside the hotel.

The ensuite shower room is tucked into a large walk-in-wardrobe style closet with sliding doors, plenty of room, very clean, nice towels, pleasant enough shower, toiletries, well lit, shaving point if needed, my only suggestion would be a lock on the door for privacy.

The sea is at the bottom of the road, the pier is about 5 mins walk, Brighton centre is about a 10 minute walk, there are a number of pubs and restaurants in Kemp Town plus a large Somerfield round the corner (for toiletries or drinks). There is a fridge in the room, handy for said drinks or some extra milk for the tea and coffee provided if, like me, you're not keen on the pots of UHT stuff.

Mark and Eamon were very welcoming. The car park vouchers available from the hotel at £5 per day were very useful, we just abandoned the car and walked to and from the town centre. All in all a very clean and comfortable hotel/B+B which, at £69 for a double room, seemed pretty good value for Brighton.

Stayed for 2 nights in early January. Room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Excellent value for money. I would unhesitatingly recommend Colson House.

The screen icons theme works really well - very nicely done. My room was immaculate and comfortable with an understated color scheme that I really like. The location can't be beat and the owners, Mark and Eamon, are terrific - very witty, friendly, helpful and interesting guys. And, last but not least from someone with a fear of being dripped on by those quaint over-the-tub shower attachments: a fantastic, stand-up, power-shower in a proper stall!
A great place to get back to at the end of the day. I highly recommend it.

After seeing the website, I was so excited about staying at Colson House and it lived up to and exceeded expectations! From the moment we walked through the door, my boyfriend and I were made to feel like old friends rather than guests, Mark was so welcoming.

We stayed in the Humphrey Bogart room which was fantastic for our needs, it was quiet, the room was immaculately clean and Humphrey was everywhere you looked! I loved the little touches like the film script in the bathroom and the back catalogue of films (I'm ashamed to admit I'd never seen Casablana until this stay).

The breakfast was also fabulous, Eamon was a great breakfast host, and there's something wonderful about a good old English breakfast with James Dean watching over you!

The location of Colson House is fabulous, just turn out of the gate and you can see the sea- all of the tourist attractions are a stone's throw away. Also, being able to buy parking permits meant that we could just leave the car outside without worrying about topping up meters!

All in all, it was a fantastic stay, and we'll definitely be going back, maybe to try a different silver screen star's room!! Thanks very much Mark and Eamon!
