“Comfort plus!”

The Kelvin

17 Apr 2008

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and comfortable by our host Paul. Paul made knowledgeable suggestions on restaurants, pubs and places of interest on this out first visit to Brighton. The room was bright and clean. The bathroom, recently remolded was very adequate. The complementary breakfast in the cozy dinning room was fresh, made to order and you were given a choice of hot or cold. We had a most pleasant stay and I would certainly look forward to retuning to the Kelvin on our next visit.

Found The Kelvin on the internet and liked what we saw. Rang the hotel and spoke to the owner, now know to us as Paul. We had an amusing conversation and we booked for the weekend in one of the en-suite rooms.
We arrived at the house in the evening and had a warm welcome from Paul who was just as amusing as the phone. Checked in with some good advice on where to eat and drink and was shown to our room. A clean and well set room. Not big, but fitted with just what we needed no more no less and it turned out big enough really. Everything in a workable location and quality. FANTASTIC shower!!! note to self - get one... Breakfast, was excellent, worth getting up early for.
We had a great stay at The Kelvin which is in the best location possible. The owners have made a great warm and friendly house. Anyone that says different didnt stay at The Kelvin in Brighton thats for sure. Thanks for all Guys Jon and Jay.

I only ever stay in 5 star hotels and was booked this room through business. After checking out web site thought I'd give it a try.
So pleasantly surprised. Friendly welcoming owners. Fresh, clean contemporary furnishings and fittings. Super king bed, flat screen tv. Just as good as my bedroom at home, in fact better cos I didn't have to make the bed or cook the traditional breakfast
which was served fresh, hot and with a smile.Only downside was I only stayed one night. But will definitely be back.

I went to stay in the Kelvin last month for my birthday with a friend.
I was really looking forward to my stay as the location was great and the pictures of the rooms on the website looked good.
On arrival we were shown to our room which was small but clean and comfortable. Initially everything seemed great but there were definately more than a few problems. our room was by the front door which meant we were constantly woken in the night and early in the morning by people coming and going and staff congrigating in the hall way out side the door. We stayed for three nights, yet our towels weren't changed once, or our room cleaned! Also our toilet role was not replenished. we mentioned this to the owner and he said he would sort it out, but he didn't so we had to buy our own toilet role. Also on the surface the owner seems nice, typical friendly jokey guy, but I heard him on more than one occasion being bitchy about guests which i found unsettling. And when we came to pay our bill he tried to charge us £150 more than we were quoted!! Not a man to be trusted!!

The Kelvin is great. The location is perfect! Less than a minutes walk to the Pier and it's in the heart of the gay area. There are loads of great gay clubs and pubs.

The rooms were spotless, really comfortable bed and the shower was great - v powerful. The B&B looks and feels really new and well kept.

The breakfast is great, made to order. Only downside was that the check-out time was 10am, although it was a good thing really as we got to enjoy more of Brighton.

Brighton itself is fantastic. Great bars / clubs / shops / cafes etc. We flew from Dublin to Gatwick and it only took 30mins to get to Brighton by train. You can get around the town on foot no problem.

Will be returning again!
