Have just returned from a one-night stay at the Manor House, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The hotel has a nice mix of traditional old (beams, uneven floors) and trendy new (restaurant and bar area) although for a 3* hotel, it is pricey and in some areas, a little frayed at the edges. We booked directly on-line, paying £245 for a Saturday night superior double with dinner in the Mulberry restaurant. The room (no 14) was spacious, with a large walk-in wardrobe, large clean bathroom with Molten Brown smellies and seating area. Although we hadn't requested it, the room had a four poster bed, although it was rather hard and I thought the blankets and bedspread had seen better days. Overall though, a very pleasant room to stay in. Although at the front of the hotel, we were not disturbed by traffic noise, only the creaking floorboards upstairs, but only to be expected in an old place. The hotel has some comfortable public areas with newspapers, books and board games and leather sofas by the fire, so we chilled out nicely with a gin & tonic and the papers in the bar prior to dinner. Dinner is quite an experience in terms of the menu descriptions and presentation of food - very elaborate and tasted delicious but only comes in VERY small portions. Anyone with a healthy appetite would probably be very disappointed and I opted for the more generous cheese course instead of pudding so as not to feel hungry. The menu is priced at £32.50 per head but beware of quite a few supplement charges which , given the quantity of food served, were excessive.
