We phoned to book a room for 2 nights at Byfield House and luckily managed to get a room thanks to a recent cancellation, and when we say “luckily” we mean that literally.
We had a fantastic feeling that this was the right one after we received a lovely email from Jill & Brett at Byfield House saying how happy they were that we had the room and gave us lots of information straight away about the B&B.
We had stayed in Cheltenham centre the night before arriving in Painswick and we were disappointed by our stay in Cheltenham while the B&B was lovely, the owners made us feel we were just there for business, which couldn't be further from the truth.
So, we arrived in Painswick and immediately found Jill & Brett and had the most warmest welcome you can imagine, they took care of EVERYTHING and from that point onwards and we wanted for nothing.
Going into Byfield House for the first time was something we will never forget – it was fantastic!!!! Jill and Brett showed us around their wonderful home which lets face it, is breathtaking! The rooms are filled with fantastic furniture and ornaments that you can't possibly take in in one go.
We stayed on the top floor which we had added luxury of having all to ourselves! The biggest, softest bed with more beautiful furniture and antique pieces surrounding the rooms and a amazing view of their equally gorgeous garden.
The room had a TV (which there is no need for in this place) and tons of reading books (something for everyone) and also Jill & Brett had stocked up our own personal fridge with wine, beer, cheeses galore, chutneys and yoghurts – the list goes on and on and on with even MORE food and drinks in the room.
There was also fresh warm croissants and bread delivered to us every morning - yummy.
After we left got settled in we were offered tea and chocolate brownies immediately in the kitchen where we all sat together and then Brett had a range of maps to show us plenty of places of interest we could visit with lovely walks and local pubs to see. It was wonderful to be given a variety of things to do after the let down of the last place where we were told where the shops were.
We felt as if we were the only people in the house and that both Jill and Brett gave us so much of their time, it was never rushed.
Painwick is a absolutely wonderful place and situated perfectly for people to be able to drive to neighbouring places without feeling like you are spending your whole holiday in the car travelling.
Both the local Church with their 99 yew trees and walks to the stream are great to do, we only had 2 days which is no where near enough time to do all you want.
Aside from the lovely village we enjoyed relaxing in the garden of Byfield House whilst the sun was out and while we had a moment in the garden to ourselves, my amazing boyfriend proposed to me! Shock does not cover it, I went from being totally and utterly relaxed to a million miles per hour heart rate. Needless to say – I said YES!! We had been together 6 years so this was our 'anniversary' break away – I forgot to mention earlier that Jill & Brett had done a lovely touch of putting a card with chocolates in our room for when we arrived – so sweet.
As blown away as I am about the whole trip because of being proposed to – I can honestly say hand on heart that even if that had not happened, I still would have had the best time ever!
Of course when we told Jill & Brett the news they were ecstatic for us, they are truly lovely lovely people and we spent time in the garden talking and relaxing over a couple of bottles of wine with their friends.
We went for food that night in the local pub called the Falcon – which was extremely nice – I had the seabass and he had the rib-eye steak and we shared a vanilla crème brulee for dessert. The setting couldn't be any better.
When we got back to Byfield House that night we had a fantastic surprise of a bottle of Champagne and a card waiting for us.
Their hospitality knows no bounds and in short we think that Jill, Brett their gorgeous dogs and their home are superb. Don't hesitate to stay here you will not be disappointed, we had a magical time that we will always remember.
In fact WE WILL 100% return to Byfield House because of the beautiful location, settings and most importantly Jill and Brett.
Thank you both a million times over xxx
