Wow, I absolutely loved this hotel, our room was to die for.
We booked a one night stay, which was classed as an easter deal with dinner included.
We checked in and were shown to our room which I was expecting anyway as I had contacted the hotel prior to our stay to ask what room we would be in and they advised the Lydia room, which is beautiful. Its on the top floor so you dont have any noisy guests above you stomping around, and is front facing so you can sit in one of the window seats and watch the world go by. It is decorated in a very monochrome way which is not to everyones taste however I loved it and my partner liked it too. The only things that bothered us about our stay was the shower did not drain properly therefore I kept having to stop the shower to let the water go down which we forgot to mention to reception and the ipod docking station did not work properly which we did report to reception but no-one ever came to the room to sort it, which to be honest hardly put a dent in our stay.
I can honestly say that all food, wine, champagne and service was impeccable at this hotel, the waiters and hotel staff were friendly and very chatty, the maitre'd knew his wine and was very helpful. The room was beautiful (don't know if I had mentioned that), the gardens and decor through the hotel were fantastic and I would go back there again and again and again.

“Beautiful Hotel in a Lovely Village”

We stayed here for one night in March 2007.

The hotel has been recently refurbished and is beautifully decorated throughout (at least all the areas we saw).

We had booked a standard room, but as the hotel was quiet we were upgraded to a four-poster room at no extra charge. We have experienced this same approach before at other Von Essen group hotels. Nice to see hotels making use of their spare rooms to give guests a better experience - at no extra cost to them.

The room (Kate) was very comfortable (if a little warm initially), and included the usual comforts, but also an IPod dock - first time I have come across one of these at a hotel - nice touch. Decanter of sherry, bowl of fruit, mineral water etc. were all present and correct.

We walked around the hotel grounds, and the village - which is small but very peaceful (may be less so in Summer). Von Essen also own another hotel in the village (Washbourne Court) which looks pleasant from the outside, if not quite as grand as the manor.

We had a pre-dinner drink in one of the comfortable lounges, and chose from a decent selection on the menu. Wine list was acceptable, but perhaps a touch shorter than I would expect in a hotel/restaurant in this price range.

The restaurant has also been recently redecorated - personally I'm not convinced the brown and blue colour scheme really works - but it is certainly a pleasant place to eat.

The food and service were both very good. Ingredients and flavours were both top-notch.

Breakfast was also up to the expected standard - and in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

“Gorgeous”

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at the Manor House. The refurbishments were finished just 2 weeks ago - including a stunning new restaurant.

We absolutely loved the classic, indulgent luxury of this hotel. Our room was stunning (Antoinette) and we felt totally pampered.

Dinner was a real event and the staff were all charming. Yes, it's expensive but it is worth every penny. We will definitely be returning.

The village the hotel is in is lovely but the hotel is vastly overpriced for what it offers, The public areas are nice but the corridors are tired and the suite we had needs some work.

For some reason a domestic bin was left on its side in the middle of the lawn for the whole of our stay along with bottles and bin bags strewn all over the lawn...not really what you expect from a country house hotel.....

“A wonderful place for a special break”

Lower Slaughter Manor

5/5 found this review helpful

We stayed at the hotel on 14/05/06 which was my wifes birthday. I had booked the champagne break and the staff had been very helpful through the booking process.
We stayed in a refurbished room called Kate which was a large four poster room(shown on their web site). You could not have asked for more - the decor was beautiful and I don't think I have ever slept on such a comfortable bed. Fruit and sherry were provided in the room along with an interesting collection of autobiographies and information books.

During the afternoon we enjoyed afternoon tea with champagne in the garden.(more than we could eat). Highly recommended for a special occasion. The evening meal was again of a very high standard with a varied choice, all beautifully presented.(accompanied with a bottle of champagne provided on our tarrif) To round off a wonderful day a birthday cake was presented at the end.

Tea/coffee brought to the room in the morning and a great champagne breakfast rounded off a truly special break.

All the public rooms have now been refurbished and whilst retaining their "manor house" style have contemporary touches. The staff were always helpful and made us feel very welcome. My wife has already hinted at our wedding anniversary later this year!
