We had the misfortune to stay in Room 22 at the Lyndhurst Park Hotel. We actually had to choose this room as the other room that had been alloocated to us smelt dreadful.
Room 22 is the smallest double room you could ever imagine. It would have been cramped with a single bed in it. The space between the bed and the walls either side was the width of a bedside cabinet.
The skirting boards in the bathroom could not have been dusted in months, although the shower was double in length, so nice and big but it had to be otherwise you would not have been able to get to the loo. There were no shelves or hooks in the bathroom although their maintenance team did manage to cobble something that hooked over the shower screen so that we did not have to scramble on the floor of the shower for our shampoo, etc. Towels were good though - they looked new.
The food was OK but for the Saturday night funciton was appalling. The main course came plated up and topped with an oversize yorkshire pudding - the kind you see in a pub with a couple of sausages in! Two people on our table refused it as it put them off because it was all piled so high.
Having ordered my paper it failed to arrive. After a couple of phone calls to reception someone came up and offered me the Times - to which I poliely told them that if I had wanted the Times then I would have ordered it. However, to make amends they did send down to the village for the correct paper.
To say that this was not the best weekend of my life is quite honest. It would take a lot to get me to go back and stay there.
