As a great admirer of Winchester for many years who was involved in the restoration of stained glass over a long period , it is always a great surprise to find no mention in your columns or indeed by your visitors on the smaller churches , St Lawrence church just off the square is not as well portrayed as the cathedral and other larger churches, yet this tiny jewel tucked away in the corner is still the mother church of Winchester! It was some years ago that two stained glass windows were discovered ( hidden away from the onslaught of Oliver Cromwell !) they were duly repaired and replaced in their original position, it is known that one other is still missing. These 'little nuggets' of Winchesters history would much enthrall any visitor , perhaps your column might go some way to enlighten them?
