Lainston House Hotel

We had stayed one night earlier this year and decided to come back for a two-night stay when we needed to be in the area in mid-December. Once again we found it very relaxing and our room and bathroom were excellent - and good value with weekend rates.

We had wondered what the restaurant would be like on a Saturday evening before Christmas; the bar and sitting room had been full of largish parties before dinner. Happily, the dining room runs over two rooms and one was kept for couples so we could hear each other talk.

Thj whole property and the grounds are very attractive and well kept. The staff were unfailingly helpful, The food was mostly excellent, though the venison one night was a little more chewy than we might have expected; perhaps it should have been hung for longer. There was a good choice of vegetarian dishes too. As far as possible, food is locally sourced.

It's rather like being in one's own country house, with none of the problems of staffing, maintenane and so on.

“Wonderful Country Hotel”

Lainston House is a classic country house with circular driveway. Lovely rural setting, if a little tricky to find. The hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere, so great if you are looking for that romantic getaway. The room I was allocated was massive - four poster bed and very traditional and heavy wood furniture. For me it was a little too traditional. The bathroom had a tub and a massive walk in shower. The only downside was the heating throughout the hotel - it was way too hot and windows had to be opened in December ! The food at the hotel was very nice and the service from reception to waiters was first class, in fact some of the best I've experienced in the UK. All in all a lovely hotel in a great spot - I would recommend to others.

“Could not have been nicer.”

I spent one night at Lainston House in December with my young son. We had a spacious and very comfortable room with a great view for a very reasonable rate -- all that and a tv you could watch in the bath, which my son loved! The service could not have been more kind and thoughtful -- they even packed us a bag of goodies to eat in the cab , as we ran out of time for breakfast.

The setting was lovely too. I would definitely stay again

“A Bit Disappointing”

Lainston House Hotel

We stayed here for 2 nights straight after our wedding. Although there was nothing obviously wrong with our stay, we came away feeling quite neutral and not sad to leave. We had a junior suite which was lovely, huge and very clean. The bathroom was equally impressive. We ate in the restaurant both nights and thought the food was good, but not exceptional.

I think the main problem was that the staff were a bit too "self important" and were so pleased to be working at such a nice hotel, they took themselves a bit too seriously. Twice we asked for another pot of tea in the gardens, and twice they forgot! Considering we paid over £400 a night room only, I thought this was a basic error that should not have happened once, let alone twice.

Overall a nice stay, but I've been to much better at half the price.

“A great country stop...”

Lainston House Hotel

Delightful place as for the settings and the room, and great deals. We had a room+dinner+breakfast package, and were upgraded in a suite, all this for a rather resasonnable cost for UK.
Very friendly and professional staff at the bar (so great cocktails).
So with all these top class details we had a huge disappointment at the restaurant, which is definitely not of the same level. Poor service, looks that waiters and sommelier were all French students (but not students in restaurant skills, apparently!), bland wines (one was even corked!), food was rather old-fashionned.... Desserts were top level, apparently the pastry chef has better skills.
Anyway, the overal impression is quite positive.
