We stayed at this hotel for a romantic weekend break after being impressed by the description on the website and the reviews on Trip Advisor. Most of the reviews were 5 star. All I can say is that the reviews must have been written by the hotel management or family and friends.
The hotel is certainly not as described. The main part of the hotel is on a very busy road and at the back they have built a travelodge type complex, which is where we stayed. However Travelodge is far superior to this place. The room was very small, dated and in dire need of decoration and refurbishment.
We had breakfast on the first morning, but did not bother on the second.
For the price we expected much more and would not recommend.

We booked for a romantic getaway in November, so paid for one of their 4 poster rooms, but I have to say we were kind of expecting more.
On the plus side: the room was big, staff helpful, nice breakfast and the walk to town wasn't too bad.
However, the 4 poster bed didn't look like a traditional 4 poster, there was only a very weak shower attachment with the bath and our room was VERY noisy (the hotel being on an A road).
As for the facilities, well we didn't use the bar, but the swimming pool was just ok. Being winter, we needed the pool to be a lot warmer than it actually was.

All in all, it was ok. If you're staying in the front part of the hotel, then bring ear plugs.

“It was fabulous!!!”

We came to England for a short holiday before Christmas.
We stayed in Thanington Hotel for a week. It was fabulous!!!
The staff was extremely helpful and we felt more like a part of a family, not just like strangers.
Our room was very clean with “four poster” bed which gave this particular English charm…
Breakfast was absolutely delicious with fresh fruit salad on offer. Superb!!!
Every day we swam in the heated pool. Especially we liked evenings when pool illuminations looked particularly romantic…
The Hotel is just 10 minutes walk from the town centre.
We would definitely recommend this place for everyone!

PS. Big THANKS to Thanington Hotel staff for all their help!!!!

“Dated and overpriced”

My partner and I stayed here one Friday night and were very very disappointed.
Location - 15mins walk into the centre and on a busy road so very noisy
Staff - very friendly
Decor - was expecting quintessential english but this place is more like a dated retirement home
Price - totally overpriced compared to other modern hotels in the city

I would not recommend the Thanington hotel to anyone planning a romantic visit to Canterbury.

“Pleasat overnight stay”

We have stayed at a number of hotels and B&B's in Canterbury whilst our son has been at the university there, but I have to say that this was the best. A pleasant and helpful welcome, a comfortable room - not
made up of odds and ends of furniture like some places - with everything that we could wish for, including warmth on a cold day! Plus breakfast was excellent - nice to see fruit and yogourt on offer.
We will definitely stay there again, no question.
