We regularly cross the Channel and prefer to use the Ferry because, after a long drive to Dover, it is good to have a rest before the long drive in France. We used to travel with Sea France but their boats became so shabby and their food so gross and unappetising that we changed to P & O just before Sea France (no surprise to us) went bust. P & O were initially more impressive with their new Boat except for the awful catering and the frightful shuddering which, we understood, was caused by the fact that the engines had been bolted to the ship's hull without any shock absorbers. We believe that this has now been changed at huge expense. Checking in, loading and disembarking all works very well with P & O. The shop facilities, lavatories and seating areas are all pretty good. If you want luxury you can pay extra and use their club facility. As regular travellers we are content with the standard accommodation but where P&O really let themsleves down is in the canteen. Beakfast is usually the meal we have and the ingredients are always high quality and reasonable value. Sadly the meal is always ruined by ice-cold plates and long queues for the painfully slow check-out staff which means that by the time you reach a free, dirty, ring stained and greasy table, your hot breakfast is stone cold and thoroughly unappetising. We have complained to the Duty Manager on each of three trips during the last 18 months but nothing happens. The Managers are very polite, very apologetic and even offer us accommodation in the Club lounge with champagne ( which we don't accept as we are driving) but the next time we travel the plates are still cold and the tables are still disgusting. You would think that these are such easy things to correct - apparently it is beyond the wit of P&O management. Such a pity because otherwise i wlould rate this service as very good.
