We were made to feel very welcome by Brenda and David. Top quality service, and great food (especially the home made bread). It is only a short walk from Ambleside, and Brenda and David were very helpful in sharing their knowledge of the area, and suggesting places to visit and eat. We consider this the best B&B that we have stayed in and was better than most hotels we have stayed in. Well deserving of the excellent comments on this site and the awards. We are looking forward to going back.

Lovely B&B in beautiful gardens and surroundings. Very friendly and helpful proprietors, but not imposing in any way. Very short walk into Ambleside. Fantastic breakfasts, including homemade bread. Definately recommended.

This was our 4th visit to the Riverside. Brenda and Dave were as welcoming and charming as ever. The house is really lovely and the standards are always so high.We find it so comfortable and relaxing. Brenda and Dave's own personal touches shine through. The lounge is very inviting with candles, soft music, books and great sofas. The bedroom was spotless and had lovely views over the garden.After a day's walking, it was a treat to sit and relax with a drink in the peaceful gardens.
They have set a standard we have found hard to match anywhere else and we look forward to returning soon.

We stayed for 3 nights in July. At the time of booking we were offered a discount for a stay of more than 2 nights, so that was a good start. All that’s been said before is true, Dave and Brenda really know how to make a stay stand out from the competition. The mattress had seen better days and there was definitely a doggy whiff in the lounge area (important if you’re allergic or prefer not to encounter our canine friends) but I would have forgiven them almost anything – I think they must have put a spell on me. Dave is just the sweetest host. Combining quiet politeness with friendly helpfulness (he even remembered our names!!) he surely deserves an award for the host with the most. It is a real rarity these days to be treated like an individual and he certainly manages that. I’m filling up thinking about it…

If you’re going to stay in winter you may find the 10 min walk into town a bit daunting but still manageable I’m sure. And do book ahead for your evening meals, Ambleside is a very popular place. We ate at the Glass House, Lucy 4 (Lucy’s On A Plate was full) and the Walnut chippy! – all very good except the bread & butter pudding at the GH –yuk! We thought Sylvia’s was great for afternoon tea too. Hope to be back soon, have been to the Lakes many times and this has got to be our best accommodation yet.
