I have stayed at this hotel three times now and I find the informality most relaxing. Wonderful garden to sit and watch the goings on of Lake Windermere. Very pleasant place to return to after a days wandering over mountains and visiting the many attractions of the lake District.

This is the fourth hotel I have stayed in at Ambleside. I will not go back to the others! The staff are very professional, very friendly (will open the bar to serve a round even when they are enjoying a quiet 15 mins at the end of a busy night!) The Lakeland Breakfast is the best I have had in an Ambleside Hotel - not too much, but bursting with taste. Newspapers available at the breakfast table as well. The views across the lake are fantastic, and a summer night with a pint of summer ale sat on a garden swing seat looking out onto the lake make a night to remember. The rooms are spacious and well kept. This is the best hotel I have been to in Ambleside, and I don't know of any others that can offer the same. Well recommended

This hotel is very convenient for Ambleside and has a wonderful lakeside position. There is a garden to sit in, with benches and swing seats which was popular on the sunny days. It is well worth the upgrade to one of the suites which are large, well decorated and have their own balconies where you can sit and admire the view. There are also a few memberships of a nearby leisure club (pool, sauna, gym etc), but you may need to book in advance. Word of warning - watch out for the midges, especially the swarms by the car park.
