We stayed here for a long weekend in March 2006. The hotel is an interesting Victorian mansion, set in a superb location . The food was always excellent, whether at breakfast, dinner or lunch. We thought the staff were clearly more service oriented than is the norm in the Lake District. The owners are very friendly, and consistently helpful. We had problems with our car in the snow, and were astonished to be accompanied down the road by 4 members of staff, armed with shovels, for the best part of an hour! - despite the hotel being full. Comfortable beds, log fires in the bar, and delicious local beers completed the experience.
