We booked this hotel through "take time out", the one night stay was a present from my daughter for Mothers Day, when we arrived at the hotel, it did look quite impressive, however, when we checked in we were advised that we were booked into a room in the annexe. On entering the room the first thing that entered my mind was "youth hostel". The decor was very shabby to say the least, the storage heater on the wall did not work, although a portable heater had been left in the room, and had been plugged in by some one at the hotel, this too did not work. At the time of booking my husband was offered the chance of a room upgrade which at the time, we did'nt think was necessary. On seeing the room we had been allocated, we decided to enquire at reception about the possibility of a room upgrade and was advised that there were'nt any available, I pointed out to the receptionist that I did'nt feel the room was very comfortable to which she took great exception, I advised her that the heaters did'nt work and that the room was cold, the bathroom and toilet were shared but were very uninviting. The receptionist then asked me to leave the hotel altogether, which to be quite honest shocked me at the time, but after leaving both myself and my husband were extremely relieved. How this accomodation can possibly be classified as a hotel is beyond me. We then booked into another accomodation in Bowness which I might add was £2.00 per night extra per person than the Forest Side including breakfast and the difference between the two was amazing. My advice to anyone thinking of booking into this hotel would be DONT. Considering this was a present from my daughter I have been left totally disillusioned at the prospect of some other poor unsuspecting victim ending up in the same situation. I.E. having been bought a gift only to find themselves unable to use it!!!

I would like to take a few moments to address the issues the reviewer has raised.
Take Time Out are an organization that runs a promotion called “One Night Free”. This offers free accommodation for one night with no obligation to take meals. They offer the promotion through companies as part of incentive schemes. We are now in our third year of working with Take Time Out. The free night accommodation is offered with our basic rooms. These are non ensuite basic rooms and are described as such in all Take Time Out literature. Some of Take Time out customers take advantage of the free night in basic accommodation because it suits their needs, some upgrade to a better rooms. Take Time Out staff offer the upgrades as a matter of course when they take bookings as this is the only payment we receive.
After checking in, this customer came to the desk and asked if the upgrade that was offered was still available, she was informed that it was not. At this point the customer became aggressive and abusive. I advised the lady that I wanted her to leave the premises. I would not expect to be spoken to in that manor by anybody; a paying customer or otherwise. When the lady left she threw the key at me and walked out stating that it was not the last we have heard of this. I expected her to place an unfavourable review on trip advisor but was very surprised that she had stated that the booking was a present.
