“Lovely hotel, with the best views and fab service”

Skelwith Bridge Hotel

24 Mar 2008

Myself, partner and little dog stayed at the Skelwith Bridge Hotel for 4 nights DB&B just before Easter. We were very lucky with the weather, sunny every day. The hotel is fantastic, food plentiful, good variety and always hot. The service was excellent, the staff very friendly and polite. The little dog was welcomed by the hotel and he thoroughly enjoyed his stay too and at 16 years old he still managed to do a bit of walking in the area. The views from the hotel are amazing, the wildlife is so nice to watch. The room was very nicely decorated, nice and warm, very clean and had great views over the river and hills. We all enjoyed our stay so much, we have booked to go again later in the year.

“Good experiences at the Skelwith Bridge Hotel”

Skelwith Bridge Hotel

25 Feb 2008

Booked a long weekend at the Skelwith Bridge as a family celebration in Feb 2008. Meant we had to accommodate a wide range of tastes for all ages. Hotel is well located for walking, public rooms and bedrooms are a little 'homely' but bar and dining room and some of the bedrooms recently renovated.
Food really excellent in terms of choice, quality and volume !
Staff efficient and friendly.
If you're tall you might want to avoid some rooms that have low doors and short baths but that adds to the charm.

Our first stay at Skelwith Bridge and definately not our last.
We booked deluxe room and was given a four poster, large and nicely decorated - spa bath was nice after a long walk.
Location was good, out of town but in an area we wanted to walk.
Food was excellent - the breakfast perfectly cooked to order, and plenty of it for a day out on the fells.
Dinner was something you MUST stay at this hotel to try, the menu selections were good and changed each day, food was cooked to perfection and piping hot. Sheer quality of ingredients was evident.
hats off to the Restaurant staff who were very professional, pleasant and efficient.
You really must try this hotel, I thought I had stayed in some good hotels in the Lakes but this is top of my list now.

This review is a reaction to that of Jenos who appears to have visited around the same time as my wife and I. Contrary to Jenos' experience we found the food piping hot and excellently cooked, both the duck and lamb were slightly pink just as we like it. Our room, which was a deluxe, was very comfortable with a very acceptable bath and shower. The hotel is in an excellent spot particularly if you are a keen walker

The hotel itself is very nice, warm and friendly. The location is excellent as you are away from the busy crowds and isolated. The staff are very happy to help and in the main, they are very friendly (save for a gumpy receptionist who may be the owner...).

The open fires and the bar are great to come back to after a day walking. The rooms could do with a bit of updating and I would get a superior room rather than a standard as the standards are very small and do not have a bath.

The bad points about the hotel has to be the food. The breakfast is fantastic but the same cannot be said for the evening meal. They try to be too fancy and often run out of dishes. Also, I had to 2 main courses which had to be returned as they were cold. That is such a shame as the rest of the hotel is excellent.
