Just got back from 'The Old Vicarage' Ambleside. Location was good which was right in the centre for restaurants, bars and shops. We found the guest house peaceful and tranquil. Our room was large however, ensuite needed refurbishing. Enjoyed the cooked english breakfasts but otherwise very little choice. Received a good welcome complimented with a pot of tea but no one around to say goodbye. Found it a little cold at times in the evening and no heating on at all throughout our stay. Great to have the opportunity to use the swimming pool, sauna and hot tub. Found this refreshing. Overall I would say I was a little disappointed, especially for the price that is charged.

Only stayed one night with my family of four on our way though the Lake District. The outside of the guest house is beautiful, it looks like an old church with an abundance of flowers. The interior is Victorian which after staying in other guest houses that opt for modern furnishings, the victorian style makes it look old and drab. We stayed in a family room right off the entrance. The room was large with a double bed and two twin beds. The bathroom was small, not very clean and in need of some updating. The hosts were quiet but friendly and helped us with where to eat dinner in Ambleside. The location is good as it is off the main street, up a private drive but a nice walk into the quaint town of Ambleside. We enjoyed dinner at "Lucy's 4" a tappas restaurant, that my kids enjoyed as well. The pool and the hot tub were wonderful for the kids as a welcome break from all the sight seeing. They also have DVD's available to watch. The gardens and patio areas outside are lovely. We would have like to have spent more time in Ambleside and the Lake District.

Having been here at New Year time we were so impressed that we wanted to return for our wedding day. Relaxing in the pool and hot tub was a joy after a hard day on the hills and knowing that there was more than enough parking space at the Old Vicarage meant that we knew that we could leave the car safely whilst out walking.
From the friendly yet professional welcome, through a sumptuous breakfast and a super bedroom, once again our stay in Ambleside, at the Old Vicarage has been a fantastic success. Quite seriously we cannot wait to come back again.

Just returned from a 4 night stay, which has been very enjoyable. The rooms were bright, airy, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic, everything you need to set up for the day. The service was welcoming and friendly. We made the most of the pool and sauna facilities as it rained quite a lot, which was just bliss.
We've booked to go back again in the summer, having stayed in quite a few B& B's /Guest houses over the years in Ambleside, we found this one the most enjoyable.
Overall - Fantastic, so much were staying again.

“Over-priced”

The Old Vicarage

Have just spent a weekend at this most overpriced of B&Bs.

The standard room was small, thin -walled, not particulary clean and with a very poor ensuite bathroom.

£90 for a room for two per night is very steep & one would expect a lot more for this kind of price. Even the swimming pool doesn't compensate for what should be a £25/night room.

The only thing going for it is its very central location meaning that you can walk back after a meal at one of Ambleside's many excellent restaurants.
